Windows Vista : 8 Versions Explained

Recommended Posts

you will get only 6 (exclude starter and business) or even 4 if you exclude the N versions

now that **** on ultimate about game performace ... wtv? lol

its probably a simply tool to kill and restore services on the fly and made the caching exe file when you enter Vista

and in the best cases.. it will interact with Nvidia and ATI drivers for disabling some stuff like AA, AF, ...

... Bye a Hard Disk Sata 2 , thats your real game performare. that **** from ms can be done by anyone with many programs available on xp

It seems MS is going the route of Mac via the OS. I hope its' not the trend....

How so? Just curious cause this sounds nothing like the Apple OS model, lol. For one price, you get everything, nothing withheld, every single option included and ability unlocked. It's actually a pretty good deal if you think about it. People complain that Apple updates the OS too often but think about it, with every upgrade you still get the full blown version with every ability available and on top of that, awesome new features that dramatically improve efficiency.

I would love to see MS adopt this same strategy, it won't make them as much money, but it is better for the consumer.

Remember people, the Vista DVD will contain all of the versions on it. You need only the key appropriate for the version you want to install that version. But it is rather silly to deny users the full features of the OS. It only promotes two things, warez and just sticking to XP.

Umm, no! Microsoft actually denied that rumor, but it is a good idea though... :)

Windows Vista Home Basic - This is the true baseline version of Windows Vista; think Windows XP Home Edition. You can expect to find features such as Windows Firewall, Windows Search, Photo Library and etc. And every other edition below will be based on this edition. Good for general consumers or even the kids.

I find it very unlikely this version will come without a firewall.

Does anyone know which versions of Vista will have a x64 version?

How offical is this list?

Link?

All I see is Paul Thurrott cited as the source.

Alright let me find it, its in my bookmarks.

Ok i found the link here on neowin it goes to an Offical Microsoft Website.

wow, Starter is totally stupid. right now I have like 9 apps running, and my MOM uses more at once. seriously, how totally useless.

Starter is for poor countries to get them PC literate. It's not meant to be an option for your normal pc person. Go read up, there's already Starter editions right now of XP.

Yes, explain to me how exactly you customize an install of OS X to remove unwanted features (ie DVD Player, iMovie etc) for mass deployment on government/military computers? Limited and specific feature sets make it easy to deploy on a wide-range of computers without having to manually go back and remove portions that aren't applicable for specific work places. Not everyone is a home user, and having every feature and ability "unlocked" might work for a home user, but not for others.

    • Yes, Scoop was created to promote Coreutils for Windows. You can still see early versions of their website on the Web Archive. It was a joke that nobody took seriously. Microsoft's implementation of Coreutils, however, are built in Rust.
    • Looks like EA's Star Wars Zero Company will be out this August by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Over a year ago, EA surprise announced that a team of former Firaxis members is working on a brand-new Star Wars game. Dubbed Zero Company, the title would have XCOM-like turn-based tactics gameplay as players manage a squad of professionals from all over the galaxy. Now, just ahead of an official announcement, it looks like the release date has leaked out. The upcoming Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday is when EA is supposed to show off the title's gameplay footage, with fans also expecting it to reveal a release date. However, the ever-reliable billbil-kun from Dealabs says they have already managed to find out when the game is coming out and what versions fans will have the option of purchasing. Per the leak, Star Wars Zero Company has an August 27, 2026, release date attached to it. The title is slated to release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 with a $49.99 standard and $59.99 Deluxe edition. The leaker also adds that there won't be any early access perk attached to this special edition. Pre-orders could kick off alongside the official announcement this Friday, too. For those unfamiliar with the title, Bit Reactor is developing Star Wars Zero Company with help from Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. The EA-published title is said to be set during the "twilight of the Clone Wars." We will have to wait and see if base building and management mechanics from the XCOM series will be present here, too. "You will step into the shoes of Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company — an unconventional outfit of professionals for hire hailing from across the galaxy," reads the game description. "Hawks and Zero Company are recruited for an operation that pits them against an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked. To succeed, Hawks will lead a team of uneasy allies who must set aside their differences to overcome nearly impossible odds." You can catch the Star Wars Zero Company extended gameplay reveal at the Summer Game Fest showcase that's kicking off on Friday at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET.
    • All their other games always had a new cast and new story, so that's not very surprising. The new dev is worrisome though.
    • New dev usually means more trash. I also despise that they censored the 1 remake.
