 Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks

Whats this dude? Ran it and made computer make alot of noise lol...

Any was currently cannot think of any tips.

It sends your comuter through the cycle it does when it detects it's self as being idle, i.e. left alone for an hour, it will run this. It organises the paging file etc. I'm not sure on the specifics. :)

While it DOES free up idle tasks, according to Microsoft, it can take up to 15 minutes to do so. You would not want to run this task before playing a game or using your machine as it will actually cause any tasks waiting for the system to become idle to be performed immediately.

Quote from Microsoft:

"When called from the command line, the ProcessIdleTasks work is done in the background asynchronously. It can take 10 to 15 minutes for idle tasks to complete. Task Manager will report processes running, and the disk will likely be active during this time"

Turn off Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, Toggle Keys.

Press LShift + Rshift at the same time.

Ahh, I love you man. I hate when I am playing BF2 and press shift or hold it long, and the damn sticky keys pops up and by the time I get back into the game. I am kicked for idling, or connection error

Cool Thread :yes:

I got one of the best windows tips/hacks on my site.

It is not a plug for my site, but the article is 2 pages long.

My article tells you how to make a windowxp box into a terminal server. SO that you can log onto the same box with up to three different accounts at the same time.

you can find it on my blog.

scroll down till you see it!

When your losing your mind...

hit a s d f

-............w

caplock.asd

-...........zx

What is this?

My tip:

Drag any folder to the edge of the screen and it makes it a toolbar (like Quick Launch)

Download TweakUI and go to the Internet Explorer bar, enable "Include path search in address bar". Now typing things in the address bar is almost the same as typing it in the Run box.

For Outlook (not really Windows I know):

Alt+S:send

F9: Send/Receive

Best I know are windows key + pause break takes you to settings

Does anyone knon if this is possible in XP?

In 98 you had a desktop button on the bottom bar that would minimize all open windows and take you to the desktop.

Did they save that in XP?

I love this option in 98. It's like a desktop icon, u know what I mean

thx :punk:

Yes, it should be there by default. However, if you've lost that icon for whatever reason:

1. Click Start , click Run, type notepad, and then click OK.

2. In Notepad, type the following text on individual lines:

[shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

3. Click File, click Save As, and then save the file to your desktop as Show Desktop.scf.

Note Notepad may automatically append a .txt extension to the file name. Remove this extension if present. The file name should be Show Desktop.scf.

Taken from Microsoft's KB Article.

when you're in IE or Firefox and you want to go to a site, google for example, you can just type google in the address bar and then hit ctrl+enter and it automatically completes the whole address and takes you to the site.

??

Typing 'Google' as it is in Firefox brings up the full address......lol...... :unsure:

Just hold the windows key and tap the letter D... This minimizes to the desktop, hit it again and it brings you back to the last screen you saw.

On windows 2000 or XP with the classic logon enabled if on XP:

Press ctrl+alt+delete, then hold ctrl+shift and press the shut down button, if you now press ok your pc will turn off immediatly.

Thats Hibernation. Not a complete shutdown.

That's because when you enter only a string of words, not a full address, what Firefox does is do a I'm Feeling Lucky search so it takes you to the first result. It takes a bit longer to get the page because it has to search it on google.

I use this feature a lot, for example if I want to go to wikipedia.org, I can ust type in wiki in the address bar and it will automatically go to wikipedia.

to create an empty folder fast

    • My son is in Monaco right now, and I was checking his location in Apple's Find My app. I noticed that Prince Albert's Palace was blurred out on the satellite imagery in both Find My and Apple Maps. I checked Google Maps, and the palace wasn't blurred there. Does Apple have some kind of process where property owners can request that their homes be blurred on Apple Maps?
    • No, it was THAT ugly and I’d rather forget it completely existed.
    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
