ad.J
I've been a long time Windows user, and with my Cable Modem, it boots up and detects my connection. I had a rather old computer (Compaq Presario 5285 K6) and it was compatible with red hat, so I deicded to install it. For some reason, it didn't get the internet connection, and i'm having to set it up manually, which brings me to my question: If I put the gateway/subnet/IP of this computer and put it on the Compaq, will both systems still have internet? Thx.
thingsforjason
short answer: no. you can only use that IP you've been assigned by your isp on one computer at a time. someone more knowledgeable than me will hopefully point you in the direction of setting up a router...either software or hardware. you may be able to try internet connection sharing through windows. zivan56
In which way are they connected to the internet? router? It will work if you disconnect the other one or turn it off while using the redhat box.
ad.J
Thanks for your help, but I decided to just reach out and ask my ISP for an IP address.
