Mr. Jingles
Right, so today I notice that my CPU usage is nuts and the disk is grinding while I'm sitting browsing the internet, so I go into Task Manager and see what the problem is. Eventually I figure out that vsmon.exe (Zone Alarm's process) is starting, then vanishing, then starting, then vanishing, etc. while consuming an enourmous amount of CPU and disk usage doing so. This is a laptop, and even then, the fan started up as it couldn't handle the load. So, I know that there are a lot of viruses that shut down Zone Alarm and such, but Avast! is happily sitting there and not complaining at all. I pop it open and run a full virus scan on the most intensive setting I can get. Nope, no viruses found. None at all. Avast!, by the way, was fully updated. Frankly I have no idea what to do now. I'm rather irritated that I'm running without a firewall (this is Windows, after all), but Zone Alarm just can't start itself up. In a few minutes I'm going to try Safe Mode, but I doubt that will do anything. Any ideas?
