MSN Messenger 7.5 eating too much ram?

Question

Hey guys,

I was wondering if someone could help me out here. I searched the forums but I found 40+ pages of hits and I don't want to go through each and every one of them.

I recently formatted my PC and finally got everything up and running. I installed MSN Messenger 7.5 last night after using 6.2 for the longest time (not full of bloatware). Well last night it was taking about 13mb of ram when Idling and 19mb when I was chatting with multiple people (I'm fine with that).

This morning I get up and was checking my email and chatting to a couple of people and noticed it was going VERY slow. I checked how much ram it was using and it was around 34mb with chat windows open. I restarted the computer and when after a bit I checked how much ram it was using up and it was idling at around 32mb and when I started to talk to my GF it shto up to 39mb.

I've tried to uninstall and reinstall it with no luck. I'm using Messenger Plus! add-on and a mess-patch to get rid of all the stuff I don't need. Should MSN 7.5 really be taking that much ram?? if not is there any way to fix it???

Thanks!

well on my p2 machine, msn messenger take up on average 40mb of ram, and on my laptop (cel-m 1.4, it takes up 35 usually at all times).

The new WLM takes up around 40-50 mb on average

remember, that its Ok for microsoft to add all of this fancy stuff and decorations, but always follow the rule: the more cr*p it has, the more ram its going to take up

I only use MessengerPlus! to log my conversations and I don't use any of the nudge of other crap that included (what a waste!) and neither do my friends.

it's always idling at around 30mb.

Are there any other types of MSN Messenger clients that arn't full of useless stuff? I'm looking for a client that will give me webcam capabilities + the ability to use Messenger Plus! & plugins.

stripping it down doesn't do anything, the features are still there but you lose the graphical side of things. I'm assuming you'll be using mess patch or a patch unless of course your being a hardass and literally stripping it down...

Yeah msn is taking up the most ram on my system right now...though it doesn't concern me too much considering i only have 24 processes running.

Messenger is also taking around 26MB of ram for doing nothing. I will strip it down tonight and see I can make a difference.

if you do manage to strip it down, you wouldnt be able to share would you? ive tried but i cant get firther than stripping the interface using reshacker :p

cheers

173mb on firefox   mines using 49.

and im on WLM, and mine is taking up 12mb but was on 34 for quite awhile after starting it up..

aye, 170+ is a common thing for me. :s its firefox 1.5, with adblock and IETab. had it over 230 before - and then it brings my system to a crawl. firefox never used to be this bad with the old 0.8 stuff, but now its stupid. I wanna ditch it, but just cant get used to opera or ie again.

Try the Mess.be patch and get rid of anything you do not need.

http://mess.be/

Let's see if that reduces your memory.

I'm already using the MESS patch and I've disabled everything I don't need.

Just curious, to those who are also having MSN issues, are you experiencing .NET Framework issues aswell?
