PSP2 features confirmed, coming this Christmas?

Even if it is a lie or its true, this is nuts. Seems like consumers are always catching up to products that are continually enhanced or upgraded. So much functionality into one device now means nothing. If they are that small then why make them smaller? If things do tasks really well, why enhance it? Just so they can take our scratch? All this is going to do, just like those ten megapixel phones that handle my music library items, is going to kill off consumer interest in the long run. If the product is so good, what would lead a typical family with two or three kids to go out and grab lil Suzy and Billy and Tommy new psps, ipods, zens, xboxs, nintendos etc... the latest models when just upping to the new product runs them a couple hundred if not thousands in some cases. Bunk. Pure bunk and more bunk. I hope the market reaches a point where consumer interest is dead.

tell that to Apple :p

It's not so much about forcing current customers to upgrade (although some undoubtedly will), it's more about enticing those that have yet to make the purchase.

'Oh, well the original PSP wasn't enough for you? Well how's about we throw in 4GB of memory and a camera. And we'll slim it down some'. If I didn't already have a PSP, I'd be salivating at the thought of a 4GB internal memory stick.

As long as the new PSP and the old PSP play the same games, they're not really alienating anyone.

If it uses flash memory of some sort it wouldn't really take up much space at all (think built-in memorystick duo). Plus, have you seen the cameras in the new macbook pros? it's built into the bezel of the monitor. Cameras can be pretty dang tiny.

Would you want the price of a 4GB MSPD added onto the unit price? My guess is it'd have to be flash memory (still expensive for that amount) or a small HD which would be the cheapest solution.

I agree with him too, on that point.

I currently only own 3 games for my PSP, which I've owned for about a year. Lumines, Hot Shots, and Tiger Woods 06. I love the games to death and I'm still trying to beat my high score in Lumines, but I'd much appreciate it if Sony got together some more good games for PSP.

\Daxter is supposed to be the shiat, so that's good

\\There's gonna be a FFVII game too, so (Y)

I only own two games just now, Wipeout Pure and GTA:LCS. Wipeout Pure was my first game and while at first I enjoyed it, I got bored after a week or so. Then I thought what game should I buy next that will keep my attention and last longer so I chose GTA. For a while I was worried I should have gone with the DS instead, but GTA shows the potential the PSP has and can continue to grow on.

For me I'm looking forward to Splinter Cell, SF and Killzone :)

Sony really need to work hard to encourage developers to come to the PSP.

Daxter caught my eye as well, I've yet to play the games on the PS2 so it should be fun

Pursuit Force

Daxter

Syphon Filter Dark Mirror

Coming later on are:

Tomb Raider

From Russia with love

Killzone

exactly, that is a great list of quality titles

Assuming it is true, this is a horrible idea, to say it will be good for the sales of the PSP is rediculous unless they drop the price a ton. This is a weak attempt to bring more casual fans to the console by adding irrelivant features such as a more likely than not sub par camera and some extra memory, which if used will make things go much slower for people who still own the original PSP. It is bad enough when nintendo does it, but that sony is pulling a quasi-upgrade so soon is a bad sign for the future of this handheld.

No one is forced to buy the new one. Since you mentioned Nintendo I have to say, they have been doing a great job with the DS. The redesigned they pulled off was superb, i dont have a DS and it tempted me to buy one. Apple upgrades the iPod frequently yet people continue to buy them. Why not make a product thinner, maybe more useable with extra features and re-release it for the ones who were thinking of buying the product. I just don't see the logic in your argument

4 gigs of internal memory, and a camera, yet it's going to get thinner? I smell BS.

Not with the way technology is moving these days.

This is gonna divide the psp world. The people with the original and the newer ones. And thats a bad thing.

And that's when the bloodshed begins. ;)

sony already killing off thier psp. lol retards i wanted decent games not new features, none the less i will have to fork our 300squids again :@

Ummm, if you actually read it they are not killing off the psp, they are rereleasing it by making it thinner with more features. Kinda like what Apple does with the IPod's, dang Apple and killing off their IPod's.

Can they EVER come up with a name that doesn't end in a number?

It's getting really old.

Yah, I know. I judge the quality of consoles based on their names. The cooler the names=cooler the console. Seriously, on the list of things to complain about this should be lower than why won't my console also cook scrambled eggs.

:| I got this is gay the psp is comming out with a 2!? thats retarded if sony wants more fans start compeating with the xbox 360. The ps3 i heard was gonna be crap. ugh.... iam getting really mad now i just got my psp like 10 days ago.... i hope you can trade in...... :|

This definitely doesn't make it any more interesting. They should really be focussing on games. At this point I'm really glad I got the DS instead of PSP. The games situation would really have to improve for me to consider getting one, not a hardware revision. The DS is just totally owning the PSP right now and I don't see this little hardware revision changing that.

This made me laugh out loud and I don't even understand what he was trying to say.

Not true, PSP2 was never officially anounced, there will be a GPS Reciever and Camera (Both accessories to be plugged in VIA USB 2.0) for the ORIGINAL PSP coming near the Holiday Season. So PSP(1) owners are still alive, Sony would also never kill a system thats 9 months old...

It's getting really old. Plus, 4 gig of flash memory and a camera can't be that cheap.

You're old, now hush.

If this is true then it'll make the push I've been waiting for to purchese a PSP. I was waiting for a price drop but this works too. =)

I'm pretty conviced this PSP2 rumor is a huuuge stretch, and most likely just confusion over the VoIP, camera, etc accessories that Sony ancounced on Wednesday. Considering that Sony is now selling the Basic Pack for $200, which is just the elimination of worthless, but high markup accessories, what good would it do for Sony to release a model that had all of the features built-in, and also maintain a line of accessories for a model that whould have only been around for about 2 years? Smaller, slimmer, maybe, but Sony is probably making a killing on all of the MS Duo's they've been selling, it wouldn't make sense to me as why they would eliminate that source of revenue.

Also, the headline is strange as well, says that it's confirmed, but then ends with a '?', mmm...

    • they couldnt do W11 LTSC so the support lasts longer....
    • The fact that the pref is not enabled by default tells you that what you see is what you get...for now. Hopefully the final version will have all the quirks ironed out.
