According to my sources, Microsoft will soon ship an unexpected "refresh build" of Windows Vista to its technical beta testers and some corporate customers. Previously, the company had been shipping only semi-monthly Community Technical Preview (CTP) builds of Vista to testers and other audiences, including MSDN subscribers. The refresh build is currently build 5342, I'm told. It will require different product keys than the previous CTP.

ever since i upgraded to AMDx64 cpu/mobo vista hasnt worked on my pc, mainly cause for some reason the damn videocard drivers wont start, i think it has to do with nForce chipset, soon im changing mobos again but with dual 7800gt's hopfully it would work then

Let's hope it's not true. I want a PUBLIC CTP FOR APRIL. If they make this interin build, the public ctp is pushed back to may AT LEAST.

Who knows, really. To be completely honest I wouldn't want the public to see a build of Vista yet. I'm a sysadmin for a bunch of software engineers, and they've constantly been asking me questions about Vista..if they got to play with it for themselves (on 5308 or a build close to it), I can't imagine the disappointment there would be..

If they're really at "feature complete" at this point..and if a Beta 2 milestone does happen, maybe that'll be a good build for the public to check out.

off topic slightly.... but at the moment ive seen it run far smoother on Intel based systems rather than AMD, in particular the 530 build. it works flawlessly on a 3GHz intel system with 1GIG of ram and onboard graphics (DELL GX620), and runs like a dog on my 3700 setup with 2GB RAM

Man, how lucky all of you testers/critics/bellyachers/naysayers/fanboys are . . . all of you, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Microsoft has given you the luxury of looking over its shoulder on this journey toward Vista.

Apple would *never* have done this. Everyone was in the dark about Tiger before its release.
