Dude that is the same question i even asked all the neowin members. And guess what, my poll resulted in 50/50. A lot of good points were brought up on both cards, its a really hard decision. Check out the posts at

I'd like to see what outcomes result from your own poll/threat. Should be interesting. As of right now i'm leaning to buying the ATI Radeon 8500 (*Retail*). I see that its newer but drivers suck, but with time they will be improved. Its a great card right now, but so is Geforce3 ti-500 i suppose. *Sigh

If you want speed, true vector technology and mpmap support and the latest technology, go for the Geforce3,

if you want lesser speed but with promising technology which are in beta stages then go for ATI

ATI is expensive, Geforce3 is less expensive

I've had better luck with Radeons in 2D and the performance difference in 3D is not something I notice.

The only 3D shooter I play is Counterstrike and you can get good performanceo n that with a Geforce 1 let alone a Radeon or Geforce 3.

well be proud, you seem to have all the reasons in the world where i dish out ~90fps in 1280x1024 everything maxed at 16-bit with my voodoo5 5500. no overclocking, 100mhz systembus.

oh, jolly, the drivers will NEVER be updated and have some time on the neck (why don't you run over to 3dfx.com for a look-see?)

I used to have the same mentality as you, but I opened up, and decided to buy both and do a comparison of my own....The results were 8500 RULES hands down.......

This can be seen partly from your own link....next time press next page to view the rest of the benchmarks.....

1: You coincidentaly picked one page that shows NVidia in the lead out of 4 that show NVidia on top. Here are 5 that show the Radeon on top by a WIDE margin!

2: This was done before the latest ATI drivers, which I can confirm make a HUGE difference, at least in 3dMark 2001 tests i performed.

3: It can be had for around $200 compared to the GF3 Ti500 outrageous cost, also Radeon haa a DFP output AND a TV output.

You do the math!
