The way we did it back with 1.5 was to record a demo in the game, then use some kind of program to capture the frames while replaying the video, and then compiling the frames into a movie file.

Recording during a demo replay is usually better because capturing frames while playing the game will result in dramatic fps drops as the processor, RAM, and hard drive are being utilized at a pretty high capacity.

edit: heyy...that is 1.5...wow i haven't seen that in a LOOOONNNGGG time

Don't use fraps. Halflife (therefore Counter Strike) has a built in demo record function.

So record a demo whilst you're playing, '/record demoname'

then play back the demo '/play demoname' and have two keys binded to start record and stop record then capture the bits you want, stich the jpegs together in a video editing software and job done.

Just google for counter strike demo recording or something, as i've not done it in years and they might not be the exact commands, but you will get much better results with that than fraps.

Tutorial"

1 Record demo with HLTV

2 Use config to turn demo into series of pictures

3 Capture audio if necessary

4 Use program to join audio + pictures into video

5 Edit video

6 Add cool music

7 Compress

8 Add to CsFlicks

Since someone else bumped this thread, what do you mean use HLTV. How do i get HLTV?

HLTV is short for Half-Life TV, created by Valve Software in 2001, allows for broadcasting of matches on the Half-Life engine, it is mostly used for broadcasting Counter-Strike matches, the current world record stands at around 39500 spectators at the same time spectating the Cyberathlete Professional League finals in 2004. The matches can be viewed by using Counter-Strike, this greatly reduces bandwidth usage and therefore allows a lot of spectators with very little bandwidth available, although hosting a total of 40000 spectators does require near 1 gigabit of upstream, it is relatively low compared to a live videostream.
But you can use it to record demos of matches from every angle, every player and every view. It's in the dedicated server folder.

Ok guys i need some help. I found this link that tells me how to do it, it's just it's confusing. this is the part i don't understand :

"Step 2 (converting to BMP/JPG)

do this with a .cfg file

Make a .cfg file called movie.cfg in you counter-strike folder that has this in it.

bind "f3" "startmovie mov1 30"

bind "f4" "startmovie mov2 30"

bind "f5" "startmovie mov3 30"

bind "f6" "startmovie mov4 30"

bind "f7" "startmovie mov5 30"

bind "f8" "startmovie mov6 30"

bind "f12" "endmovie"

also you make a copy of your config.cfg and rename it to myconfig.cfg in your counter-strike folder.

Then start your counter-strike demo by going into the console of counter-strike and typing ?playdemo XXXX? where XXXX is the filename or name of the demo your recorded. While in the console remember to exec your movie.cfg to do this type ?exec movie.cfg? in console.

"

can you guys tell me exactly what to do in the easiest possible way??

Make a txt file with "bind "f3" ... "endmovie" in it and rename it to movie.cfg. Start cs and open the console and type exec movie.cfg. Open the demo u recorded with playdemo "demoname" and when you get to a part you want to record hit f3. Then when you want to stop hit f12. Then to record a new one hit f4 and then f12 to stop and so on up to f8.

Yeah see that's the part i don't get.. How do i make a config file?

Thats what bmpscanner's for. It converts the bmps to jpgs on-the-fly and deletes the bmps afterwards. :)

On BMP scanner, at the top there is a location, but when i input my cs folder, it says that there is an error with one of the dll's and that it cannot proceede.

EDIT : wait.. do i have to be recording it and using BMP scanner at the same time?? when i did it, i finish the recording, then started BMP scanner. Also, how much of a HDD diff will we see between jpeg and BMP?.. BTw ty crimsonhead

Put ijl15.dll in your system folder, ie: windows\system

Put bmpscanner.exe in any folder you wish. (Example: C:\bmpscanner)

Run bmpscanner.exe.

NOTE: If you cant get the program to run, you might need "Visual Basic 5.0 Runtimes".

They can be found at www.microsoft.com and many other places.

You're supposed to run it while ur recording, then it scans the directory every x seconds and when it sees new bmps, it converts them on the fly to jpg, then deletes the huge bmp files. It makes a HUGE difference in HD space.

    • Regarding the AI photo, I LOVE AI in that regard, you ask it what you want and it gives you a lovey photo in under a minute, that would taken me an hour to make in photoshop and it wouldn't have looked nearly as good. 2 nights ago I spent a couple hours collaborating with AI.  I did not say write me an article. I would write one or 2  paragraphs, then I would ask it to clean it up so it read better but still keeps the information I was trying to convey.  Rinse repeat.
