Vista Build 5365 released too testers on connect

Recommended Posts

Hii.

QUESTION: 1. The Boot Screen changed from latest (5342) build (Black-White) ? ? ?

2. The Audigi driver(s) ist fixed/updated ? ? ?

Thanks.

1) no

2) don't know, soundmax from windows update still isn't working correct though, so maybe that says something about audigi too??

The install took about 45 minutes for me.

I had a question myself too. As you know you get these warnings when you start an app or want to throw something away, the screen gets vague and only the warningmessage is clear. But before the message appears my screen goes black, is this 'normal'? and if it isn't, what could it be? I ask this because I had it to in XP with iexplorer 7. So I thought it might just be something with my computer?

thanks

are all the feautures of MCE fully working on this ? I have a live Media center PC in my lounge, its my only Tuners and its my PVR and i watch everythgin through it.

I was thinking of making a seperate partition for Vista to test out the MCE section, is it worth doing this ?

It is a bug if your screen goes completely blank... it is supposed to just fade. Take a look in the official MS BETA Newsgroups for discussion.

I can't use it at the moment because the Creative BETA drivers for Vista are really bad and stutter/crackle all the time on my Audigy 2. Otherwise it all seems to work great.

k thanks, I was going too, but I was on the forum anyway and you normally get an answer a lot quicker when posting here :p

I was maxxing out using the Euro servers.. and.... I'm done. Before you hit download, change your download location and give it another go. I was only getting 80k in the US server.

Hope this will build is solid enough that I can wipe my XP partition without worry.

It's been a long journey for testers this past 2 weeks, with rumors coming out everyday about different dates of when the build would be released all of which were eventually proven to be fake. Although this time, it's not fake at all, Windows vista build 5365 has now been released on Microsoft Connect for testers. The full build string is 5365.winmain_idx05.060419-1800.

User Account Protection

This new build brings several updates to Windows Vista's UAP (User Account Protection). UAP has been one of the most hated services since it was integrated into Windows Vista due to the intensity of the security. Though UAP has now been turned around in this build, the severity of the service has been reduced in this build to allow users to perform simple tasks without having pass through several UAP prompts (Windows that ask for your permission to complete the task).

Performance

One of the most noticeable features in this build is the large improvement in performance. The build now not only boots faster but seems to function much faster without using as much memory as the previous build 5342. Though the operating system is getting faster, official System Requirements have yet to have been released by Microsoft.

New Content and Visual Changes

Since the beginning of the beta, Windows Vista used mostly old content from Windows XP such as the wallpapers, display pictures and sounds; however this build now includes new content only available in Windows Vista. The build now includes new wallpapers and new user account display pictures though the new anticipated sounds still haven’t made their way into Vista.

The build is available for both 32 and 64 bit processors, The beta program managers are encouraging all 64 bit users to upgrade to this new build due to better compatibility. Downloading this beta might be somewhat of a nightmare for Dial-Up or light DSL users, the total file size for this build is marked just over 3GB at 3,098MB. For activation, your current 5342 keys will do just fine. No new keys have been released and we are being told to use our current keys.

Enjoy :) I am really impressed with this build, the performance is really great compared to 5342..

Windows Vista Screensave that everyone been wanting to see in action. Canalla just post it on his site! (some other stuff there too.. screenshots) The video was i think made with Windows media encoder 9 so i'm not sure if it's system that couldn't keep up with it or vista being buggy or the program not working well with vista

the screen saver looks nice... minus that blink blink thingy...

it shudnt blink at all isn't it...

still d/loading the build with my 1MB dsl line... pheww...

"the lines that move across the screen dont actually flash, just the encoder didnt seem to like them!"

^ Streamyx 1MB DSL package sux.

I haven't even got Streamyx at the moment as it's down for me because of some unknown reason  . I'm piggybacking someone's wireless connection :shiftyninja: .

Thanks for the heads (Y)

I would also like to take a moment and reflect on how many people said that Paul didn't know what he was talking about last week, that a build wasn't coming out. So :p to those people, and a big (Y) for Paul. From now on, check your sources, we should all know by now that Paul isn't going to publish something unless he can backup his claims or opinion.

Is it possible in this build or expected in future builds to be able to change the taskbar color? I really hate the dark gray, it's very somber looking to me and though in some screen shots from this thread show a lighter color gray I'd like to have the taskbar white like it is with OS X.

    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
    • Everything they say you can already do yourself on the registry by changing some things.
    • Artist's renderings are so much nicer to view than the real thing, don't you think?
