Mars Bar = Name Has Changed!

Recommended Posts

You simply have no idea.

The vast majority of the cost is spent on making people aware of the name change, a process that will take some time before they actually go ahead with the change. During this time, expect to be spammed with all sorts of advertising for this name change. And then of course they have to change it back again.

It'll probably be more like ?9 million.

I wonder if snickers will follow suit and change their name for the world cup as well. I wonder what mars will change their name to when the 2012 olympics are on?

Marathon maybe?! :D

I hope that everyone realizes that a Snickers with Almonds bar is nothing but a Mars bar in a different wrapper!

What?! Mars doesn't have almonds in!

$9,000,000,000..... ?

Lmao. Jesus.

I guess our Milky Way bar is known as the Mars bar in Europe.

The Mars Bar was introduced in the United States in 1936. It contained nougat and almonds topped with caramel and covered with milk chocolate. It remained on the market until 2000 when it was renamed the Snickers Almond bar. Elsewhere in the world, it is known as the Mars Almond bar.

Discontinued in 2000? I know that I have purchased a Mars bar since then.

[Edit] I read that the snickers bar used to be called the Marathon bar in Europe. Here in the US, the Marathon bar was completely different. Man, I loved those when I was kid! :woot:

The Marathon Bar was a full eight inches of braided chocolate and caramel. Introduced in 1973, the bar stood out, thanks to its bright-red package and gargantuan length. Inch markings printed on the wrapper showed that it was as long as it claimed. (The length was the result of its braided shape; it didn't weigh more than standard candy bars.) When sales didn't meet expectations, Mars Inc., took it off the shelves in 1981.

America's Marathon Bar is not to be confused with the Marathon Bar sold in the United Kingdom. Britain's Marathon was a chocolate-carmel-and-peanut product sold in the United States under a more familiar name: Snickers.

In 1990, Mars decided to change the Marathon's name to Snickers, the world's No. 1-selling chocolate bar.

But Mars didn't want to lose the candy bar's British fans. So for 18 months, the candy bar's wrapper sported both the Snickers and Marathon name, the latter in smaller type. Then the Marathon name was dropped. Snickers/Marathon went from the UK's No. 9 candy bar to No. 3.

This is only temporary, according to wikipedia it says,

"On the 18th of April it will be temporarily renamed "Believe" for the world cup."

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_bar

Now I know its not the 18th yet, but maybe thats when the countdown began ;)

Maybe they can rename all the brands back to the good old!

Snickers > Marathon

Starburst > Opal Fruits

I guess Mars aren't doing too badly if they can afford to "waste" ?9billion on what is essentially a temporary ad campaign.

lol yeah right - 9 billion!

Hoping to capitalise on the euphoria surrounding the forthcoming 2006 FIFA World Cup, for the first time ever Masterfoods will launch a new face of Mars through the introduction of limited edition ?Believe? bars in the UK.

FACT, "Believe" is a temporary name for the product, and it's NOT the first time they've done this.

FACT, it's been on the shelves for the past 2 weeks (those retailers with new stock) - I've bought one last week with the new name

FACT, the company name is "MARS", they're NOT going to change the flagship product for good.

FACT, all other MARS products (i.e. mini bars, partypacks) will not have a name change during this period.
