pinhead
We all know the fuss concerning Intel and AMD and their processor frequency issues. But can anyone tell me how fast an Apple G4 800Mhz chip is compared with the PC counterparts. And please - DO NOT START A MAC IS BETTER THAN......OR INTEL IS BETTER THAN....OR AMD IS BETTER THAN.....THREAD - this is not the point of this. aco Veteran Posted September 30, 2002 Veteran Share Posted September 30, 2002 I'd say the 800Mhz G4 is about as fast as a P4 1.6. Depends what you use it for.
Hypercube
I'd rate it at 1.3 GHZ p4.:)

Thanks :) -xStainDx As this applied to neither PC or Macintosh - thats the reason I posted here. As it was, the question was just to get information as to a comparative speed approximation and as such, posting in Macintosh or PC would have resulted in a biased response which was not going to be condusive to a balanced answer. Chad
The world may never know. I would say an 800 mhz g4 would be equal to a 800mhz to 1ghz P4/Athlon. I don't know a huge amount about processors, but i do know that it is hard to compare processors on different platforms. Especially RISC to CISC

Especially RISC to CISC I've actually found the 800mhz proc in my machine to be about as powerful as my friend's 1.4ghz in terms of speeds. It entirely depends on the app and it's optimizations (altivec, sse, mmx, and all that jazz). Really, there's not much one can do to compare them directly, short of testing EVERY application in existance on each platform :p
