Is this even allowed? I thought we weren't allowed to discuss circumventing the installer? Someone correct me if I am wrong?

If not more power to you guys. Nice to see WMP11 ported to Windows Server 2003. (Y)

I give you a good advice:

Do not believe every $%?& people write in forum posts.:DD

Win2K3 SP2 is out in the spring of 2007 and SP1 _IS_ the latest.

[edit] if the installer author was a woman, i would give her a *mmmmmwah*!

This thing installs OUT OF THE BOX now! I have no idea how you did this, but well - I'm impressed!:woot::

But note: this installer will install the BETA, not the final!>

I only believe things I have checked myself, so listen:

WMP11 contains a wmpmde.dll which has version 11.0.5721.5145 in the final release.

In the build available from rapidshare, the version number is only 11.0.5705.5043.

So this installer will install the beta, not the final version!

Could anyone also provide this kind of smart installer for the final, please?

Thanks for this - it solves a problem for many people and is

complicated with all those CAT and INF files, then putting it all

back together again... tough job, but you did it, thanks!!

Could anyone also provide this kind of smart installer for the final, please?

Exactly what I was going to ask!

Pretty please!!!

Ah I see someone else who doesn't let fool himself and checks file versions to determine beta/final :D

New results: I am back to Windows Media Player 10. My Creative Zen V did NOT work anymore after the hack was installed. WMP11 is the sh.. in looks, but I will not allow my MP3 player support to be broken afterwards. If you have a Creative Zen device, *P L E A S E* make a full image of your system partition before you install the WMP11 hack!!!!

Otherwise you might end up with a wonderful media player but will be unable to fill your mp3 player with music.

Watch out!

1. Download and extract the Windows Media Player 11 installer using WinRar.

1.jpg

2. Delete everything in the mpsetup folder except for wmp11.exe and wmfdist11.exe.

3. Extract wmp11.exe and wmfdist11.exe using Winrar. Be sure to use the ?extract to? option.

4. Extract my installer into the mpsetup folder

5. Make sure your mpsetup looks like the image below and run install.bat

Timing is still a slight issue but I have used this installer on three different machines and it does work. If you get an error message just run my installer again. The second try has always worked here.

For some reason my host won't allow me to link to the file and Neowin is screwing up my installer. I'm trying to get it posted

Hi, i was read your faq, but me too can't succeed to install WMP11, I receive alway error about Crytography service, but this service is run!

Hi

I have successfully installed the release version of WMP11 on 2003 Server using this thread as a guide. Thanks for the info.

I have started a new thread for issues encountered while actually running WMP11.

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=513670

So here's the details of my install.

1. On a demo machine !!

2. Download wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe from Microsoft. (I had to change my user agent in my browser from 2003 -> xp before I was allowed to download this)

3.Download Installer.zip from this thread.

4. Unpack using the instructions above.

5. This is NEW! Keep wmdbexport.exe It will create a file wmdbexport.xml when run. This enables you to transfer your WMP10 database to WMP11.

6. In the mpsetup folder I overwrote the four inf files 2k3.inf, 2k32.inf , xp.inf and xp2.inf using the actual inf files from the release version of WMP11 that I had downloaded. They are not the same size as those downloaded in the zip. Adjust 2k3.inf, 2k32.inf with the 2003 codes. See above.

7. Run the batch file. I got the cryptographic error on first run. I altered the pause delay from 1 to 4 and it ran fine.

WMP11 is installed and working fine.

You can upgrade your WMP10 database CurrentDatabase_219.wmdb to the version for WMP11 CurrentDatabase_360.wmdb at any time. Delete the latter, run wmdbexport.exe and reopen WMP11.

Kevin

Hi lucifer1972

If you get the Crytography Service Error try altering the delay in the batch file.

Supposedly higher for a slow processor and lower for a fast one.

This worked for me. (Although the install might just have worked second time around whatever)

Kevin

Hi again

Have a further update on the install of wmp11 into 2003server.

The final release version of wmp11 is 11.0.5721.5145

The batch file available in this thread includes a registry fix fv.reg

This updates the registry to version 11.0.5358.4826

On my first install this registry fix was irrelevant because the installer added the correct data to the registry.

On my second install this didn't happen hence this comment.

the file fv.reg should read

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions]

"wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,0b,00,19,14,59,16

"wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,0b,00,19,14,59,16

"wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,0b,00,19,14,59,16

Kevin

With Server 2003 SP2, Extract wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe,

run wmfdist11.exe in XP Compatibilty mode

run wmp11.exe in XP Compatibility mode, installs WMP11 :)

I just installed RC of SP2 and can confirm that this works great.

    • OpenAI is now rolling out Lockdown Mode to more ChatGPT users by Pradeep Viswanathan Back in February, OpenAI first announced Lockdown Mode for users who want the most comprehensive protection from potential attacks. At the time of the announcement, the company mentioned that this feature was available to a small set of highly security-conscious users, including executives or security teams at leading organizations. Today, OpenAI announced that Lockdown Mode is now rolling out to all personal ChatGPT accounts, including Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, and also self-serve ChatGPT Business accounts. Users can enable the feature from ChatGPT Settings > Security when it is available for their account. When Lockdown Mode is enabled, ChatGPT limits or disables several features that connect to the web or external services. These include live web browsing, Deep Research, Agent Mode, and more. Here is the complete list of services that will be disabled in Lockdown Mode: Live web browsing: Web browsing is limited to accessing only cached content. Search results may be limited, unavailable, or stale. Image support: ChatGPT may not display images in regular responses or retrieve images from the web. Users can still upload image files, and image generation remains available where it is otherwise available. Deep research: Deep research is disabled. Agent mode: Agent mode is disabled. Canvas networking: Users cannot approve Canvas-generated code to access the network. File downloads: ChatGPT cannot download files for data analysis. ChatGPT can still operate on your manually uploaded files. It is important to note that Lockdown Mode does not completely block prompt injections from appearing in content that ChatGPT processes. For example, a malicious instruction could still be present in an uploaded file or cached web content. However, the mode is designed to reduce the ways such an attack could send sensitive information outside the conversation. Along with Lockdown Mode, OpenAI today also announced that the Active sessions feature is now available across ChatGPT accounts and workspace types. This feature allows users to review where their account is signed in across devices and end sessions if required. A session will have the following information displayed: Device or browser information. First-party app context, such as ChatGPT, Codex, or API Platform. Approximate location. Sign-in date and time. Whether the device is a trusted device. Whether it is your current session. OpenAI highlighted that the Active sessions feature will not be available for accounts linked to an organization’s single sign-on setup, including SAML or OIDC.
    • with LSTC and ESU, moving to w11 or linux because w10 suddenly will not work when in reality it works and its a better choice, of course there are also developers that only test in 11 or force you to have TPM and Secure boot for the sake of "better security" in games. or most likely people is buying new PC that only ship with 11
    • with LTSC and ESU there are still viable as a stable platform not that they care and let people deal with w11 crashing and burning every month support mean shet if the platform is trash
    • Most boring game ever. Repetitive, empty, predictable, and full of cliches. Total waste of time and money, IMO.
