[Review] Apple MacBook 13.3"

Recommended Posts

Hey SOOPAH256,

where'd you get that desk at? Any idea of the name or brand of it?

The desk is from Staples.

It's called the O'Sullivan Furniture Diplomat "L" Collection.

Here's a link: Staples

It's pretty cheap. I actually would recommend something with more storage space.

I initially saw it from one of the monthly Post Your Workstation threads here at neowin.

I'm currently in the process of remodelling my room. In fact the hutch to the desk should be arriving sometime tomorrow. I'll post pics when i'm all done.

i went to the mall today in braintree, ma to check them out... but strangely enough all of the mb 13" models were behind ropes around security guards. needless to say i didn't get a very close look. i'm a little disappointed with the black though. it doesn't look as glossy/shiny as i thought it would be, kind of a dull black you know?

From what I have read elsewhere, the one button touchpad can be setup so you can do right-clicks. Kinda like the mighty mouse can sense when your doing a left/right click.

Someone witha macbook or played with one in store able to confirm this? Thats pretty cool if it actually does but i would like to know for sure.

very nice purchase. cant wait to pick one up for myself in a few months. so glad apple switched to intels and allow you to dual boot to XP now -- it just makes the mac that much more attractive. they've done everything i was hoping they would add/change for these new macbooks. 13.3" widescreen (perfect size imo), isight camera built-in, apple remote, intel core duo, and lastly they kept the imo very affordable price of $1249 CDN with the $100 off for post-secondary students!

The keyboard for me looks a bit odd, but the white one looks really nice  . I have a question however, does the keyboard sort of glow in the dark because looking at the placement of the keys, it looks like it could be able to do it.

---edit 2---

So I finished installing BootCamp/XP and Counster-Strike: Source. I ran everything on it's default settings (pretty much medium or high on everything) using the native widescreen resolution of 1280*800, and sad to say, I only got some 10-15 fps. I personally don't mind too much, because I don't play games much. But for some of you i'm sure that comes as a big disappointment. I'm not sure if I needed to tweak anything or whatever. I just did everything cleanly installed (no other apps). I even ran it again using the minimum graphics settings and got the same 10-15 fps results. I ran it at default gfx settings @ 1024*768 and the game seemed to pick up a little more, but still quite laggy. I didn't check for fps on that one though.

You're going to have problems running modern games on high settings, the MacBook uses integrated graphics. There's no dedicated GPU, just like the Mac Mini.

Nice review so far, wish I could afford a new mac, all im stuck with is this G3 Lombard its so slow and outdatednot even firewire! . Here is an offtopic question Where Apple is at the moment with their Computers , does this mean that PPC will be dead soon if not already?

I spoke to Apple telephone sales yesterday about these macbooks - they assure me that they keyboard is back-lit.

The MacBook's keyboard is NOT backlit. http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/c...ison_chart.html

As for the right-click mouse button: http://www.macworld.com/2006/05/firstlooks...first/index.php

However, I was impressed with one new feature of the button: when you click while you?ve got two fingers on the MacBook?s trackpad, the button becomes a control-click/right-click button. (This is an option; you can turn it on or off in the Trackpad tab of the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane.) It?s not quite a two-button mouse, but it sure beats reaching for the control key when you want to see a contextual menu. (And it?s a feature the 15-inch MacBook Pro doesn?t yet offer, although it does appear on the 17-inch model.)

That looks pretty sweet imho :)

:x

What I really wonder is how Apple's going to change models. In the PPC days the the iMac would get a complete overhaul with the introduction of a new "G" CPU. When will we see an entire new iMac now they're all Intel (if there's going to be a new one at all)?

congrats on the buy!

but i have to ask... why would anyone want a black mac? i mean... runs windows check. intel cpu check. black housing... check.

whats the difference between this and an IBM thinkpad?

i have a thinkpad and before that i had a sliver shiney spiffy looking laptop.. after a while the shiney laptop didnt look too hot cuz u could see the wear on it. thinkpads tho always look new cuz u can't see scratches or bumps. this may have been a reason. also they do have black ipods so get these to match.

speaking of thinkpad, i'm posting this msg using safari on osx on my thinkpad ;)

    • I miss when there was blue and red and green devices. Now we get sand black or silver.... just like most car lots now.
    • Microsoft should never have purchased anything after RARE.
    • Call of Duty: Vanguard, EA Sports FC 26, and more come to Xbox Game Pass by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is in the process of making some big changes to Xbox Game Studios right now, which might include studio shutdowns, but Game Pass drops aren't pausing for that. The second wave of June was just announced, unveiling another Call of Duty addition, the latest soccer game from EA, an indie road trip hit from last year, and more. While Microsoft said it won't put Call of Duty titles on Game Pass on the day of launch anymore, older titles keep landing, with the latest one being 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. Here are all the games that were announced today for Xbox Game Pass, their platforms, and arrival dates: Junkster (Cloud, XBOX Series X|S, Handheld, and PC) – June 16 Call of Duty: Vanguard (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 17 EA Sports FC 26 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 18 Abyssus (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 25 RV There Yet? (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 30 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 2 Winds of Arcana: Ruination (Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC) – July 6 From the bunch, Junkster is the sole day-one drop into Game Pass libraries of this selection. As new games arrive, eight will be leaving the Game Pass programs on June 30. Here's the full list of leaving titles: Mecha Break (Cloud, Console, and PC) Payday 2 (Console) Rise of Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Slay the Spire (Cloud, Console, and PC) Ultimate Chicken Horse (Cloud, Console, and PC) Volcano Princess (Cloud, Console, and PC) Unpacking (Cloud, Console, and PC) With June drops finished, Microsoft should have a new Game Pass announcement in about two weeks to reveal the first wave of games coming to subscribers in July. Already confirmed games for the month include the Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, Corsair Cove, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, and Mistfall Hunter.
