[Review] Apple MacBook 13.3"

Recommended Posts

speaking of thinkpad, i'm posting this msg using safari on osx on my thinkpad

If that wasn't being sarcastic, congratulations you can apply a publicly available yet illegal patch to run OSX on none apple systems, you should be proud of yourself.

I'm also interested if its quiet/silent like the above person mentioned because that's one of the main reasons I sold my 15" powerbook (It sounded like a jet and having to press ctrl+click to right click is stupid)

There are reports that the black model in particular has a 'flaky' paint job on it, meaning the paint will peel off or it's not painted on properly.

The website is here:

And I've attached the image to show.

Do you have any signs of this? (original poster). I'm thinking about getting a black MacBook but would opt for the white model (glossy exterior) if the black matte exterior (flaking) proves to be common. Maybe it's just a small number of cases only.

This thing is un-freaking-believable! I just got one an hour ago and its so awesome.

This is my first Mac ever (yea, I just switch), and the experience is amazing. Im gonna have alot of questions further on, hope Mac experts are on call.

edit: Is the AppleCare protection plan worth buying? The people at the retail stores keeps pressuring me to buy it but I declined. told them I'll come back if I decided to buy it. So? Is the 3 year plan worth it? Especially this being the first release of the MacBook, its bound to have some problems like the reviewer's memory slots.

woah flaking...

I guess if they did it glossy black, scratches and stuff would show and people would complain like mad as if God forced them to buy it :p

That's not good  . The reason why people wanted black in the first place is that it doesn't stain so easily. I mean, have seen the white iBook after a couple of years. It looks like you were trying to erase pencil marks on the cover  :p .

It's well worth, trust me you don't want your MacBook dieing on you without warranty, fixing Laptops are always expensive. You may never need it but its a wise investment.

Welcome to the switchers. I joined last November

Yes AppleCare is well worth it. Apple is known to have the best technical support by many studies. Not only that, but for a laptop, a 3-year warranty is really needed. One repair would easily pay for the cost of the warranty (when you factor shipping, the price of the part(s), labor, etc.).

And from what I have heard, Apple is pretty quick on getting a computer repaired and sent back.

Extended warranties for laptops have saved me several times on the PC side. I luckly haven't had to use it on my iMac G5 yet, but if I ever do, I feel very good about it.

Yes that is my opinion too. I have purchased APP for my current 12" PB and have had to use it once. What did I get? A replacement LCD and a new logic board. It took a month (they didn't have the parts and had to order in) but I am satisfied with the machine - I haven't had any problems with it since.

I'm converting to a 13" MB (this machine will be a hand-me-down to my sibling) and before the first year is up, I'm definitely buying APP for the MacBook. Since it's a first generation Intel, it's sure to have problems in the 2nd and 3rd year (especially the battery, how nice would a replacement one be!). it's worth the cost, but do so before the first year is up, spend money on RAM first.

I forgot to mention, you get one free battery replacement with AppleCare. Which is a big deal since laptop batteries tend to go in a year or two depending on usage. That is $50-100 right there.

well you see, many people try to be very specific when it comes to specs.

People compare Ghz, RAM, Features and so on.

When I say stronger I mean overall.

For example if someone asks me "What's strong a Mac Mini or Dell XPS*insertmodelnumberhere*" I'd say the Dell.

edit:

to also avoid confusion, I am comparing the latest cosmio with the macbook (since that's the latest 'ibook')

Just a quicky for you, seeing as you've got Boot Camp installed on this, do you fancy running this?

Just interested in what it says.

only thing that's keeping me from placing the order...

    • Nah. For every indie dev that needs to create code for "stuff" or textures, it's a godsend enabler to possibly tackle a project that you may not otherwise. The end result and testing will tell the truth if everything works or doesn't, or a game is just mediocre slop, but now these tools are now there and it's the developer's duty to judge the outcome, and even more so for pro studios. And you gotta remember that they will be at an early stage.
    • whoosh my comment went over your head. Enjoy your notchless 3:2 OLED device
    • As a game dev, today was really depressing. They announced that Blueprints will be deprecated in UE6 to be fully replaced by their sh**ty Python-like Verse language... They also announced that 5.8 will be the last version of UE5 until UE6 comes out in MID 2029!!!! They have completely lost the plot.
