Half-Life 2 on Xbox 360?

Recommended Posts

Despite a 2005 release on Xbox and qualified arguments against bringing Half-Life 2 to Xbox 360, Valve is apparently bringing its award-winning first-person shooter, Half-Life 2, to Xbox 360 in early 2007, according to two retail stores.

EBGames.com and Gamestop.com posted that Half-Life 2 is slated to release on Xbox 360 in February 2007 for $59.99. Both sites posted old details, which refer only to the single-player game, indicating that the add-on packs and multiplayer maps won't be part of the package. (We're well aware both retailers are part of the same chain, but they often post different information and have different games.)

"We've only announced development for 360," said a Valve representative. "No specific titles to reveal just yet, but folks can expect to hear more before the end of this year." Electronic Arts, which distributed the console version on Xbox, told IGN, "EA has not made any announcements regarding Half-Life 2 on next-generation systems."

At E3 2006, online rumors indicated that Valve is bringing Half-Life 2 to PlayStation 3. We'll have more on Half-Life 2 for Xbox 360 soon.

At least we know that they are working on something right now for the 360.

They've been porting the Source Engine to the 360 for the last couple of months. They won't just release Half Life 2, they will probably also release the upcoming episodes on 360 with updated graphics (mabye).

Source Engine might be the cheaper alternative to the Unreal Engine...

think he means it wasnt very popular

Ahh, that would make much more sense if that is what he did mean.

Even if that is what he meant, I am not sure I can agree with that argument at all.

I would argue that it did actually did quite good despite lackluster sales overall for the PC.

It was also without a doubt definitely highly regarded the by the gaming community on a whole. Just to name a few taken from Wikipedia...

[1]On February 2, 2006, the game won the "Best Graphics" and "Best Technology" awards at the 2006 Imagina Games Awards.

[2] On December 20, 2005, the game won "Best Story" in GameSpy's Game of the Year 2005 Awards.

[3]Winner of GameSpot's 2005 "Shooter of the Year."

For the record, I personally stopped playing the game as it got repetitive, so I am by no means a huge fan of the game whatsoever. I just know a lot of PC gamers thoroughly enjoyed the game itself.

Back OT, is the original HL2 that is backwards compatible with the 360 any good?

I have some GameFly credits I have to use by the 4th, and I can pick up the XBOX version of HL2 for $7.99 with that credit being used. I am a HUGE fan of the PC version, and to me getting the XBOX version of HL2 would be nothing more than for nostalgic like purposes, just to play the game again on something other than the PC, that is if it is even worth it...

    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
