Tim Dorr Veteran Posted October 2, 2002 Veteran Share Posted October 2, 2002 before you think of this as spam, it's not. It's sort of a scam but not really :D see, there's this student developer program at apple. As a part of this, you get a one-time purchase of a peice of hardware under the apple hardware developer discount program. Check it out here: http://developer.apple.com/students/sthardware.html and here's the apple store for the latest prices: http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ADC?qprm=38839 Now, the thing is, the student developer program costs $99 to enroll for a year. So, basically, the discount you get is the one listed minus $99. In the case of a 17" iMac, you'll get it for $1599 + $99 for a total of $1698!! The best part, it's totally legit! And if you're looking into developing, this is also of a benefit to you. I just started doing some dev work in Cocoa and it's uber-cool :D I hope this helps some peopel saving up for a Mac, it's a good way to get one and get you started with soem Dev work. Now I just wish I had found this BEFORE I bought mine... ;)
Gator
Very nice discovery, I will do this for my next Mac purchase. FYI: Unlike the normal education discounts this program actually makes sure that you are a real, enrolled student. BUT....I am an Apple Student Developer and I did not have to enter in my student i.d., so who knows..
