"Windows is unable to find a system volume..."

I've installed 4 releases of Vista but this is the first time I've had such a problem. I have an ~80GB D: partition with 50GB available (16kb clusters), a full 80GB second drive with ~20GB available (16kb clusters)and the first partition on a third drive (27GB - 4kb clusters) and it won't install on either. The Next button is enabled but when I press it, it gives me the "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets it's criteria for installation" message. I've tried it with a virtual drive and by booting with the dvd. I formatted the 27GB partition with setup but it also failed. Anyone have a possible solution for this?

Man I'm totally feeling your pain man. This is also the first time I've ever EVER had trouble installing Vista. Everything went fine with 5270 until 5365. Then with 5384, nothing. How gay is that eh? :rofl:

I'm trying to install the x64 version, btw. I even allowed setup to delete, create and format a partition on the secondary channel master drive (1st partition) to no avail.

im glad im not alone on this. i have this problem while trying to install as well. I have plenty of space for the install yet it gives me this error. Maybe this is a x64-only bug?

I had this problem a few builds ago. Apparently it didn't like that I had a compact flash card and an iPod plugged in. Unplug whatever USB storage you may have, reboot, and then run setup again.

nope. i tried unplugging everything except my keyboard and mouse. still get the same error.

Hmmmm... unplugged my USB DVD-RW but it didn't work for me :no: . I just tried the 5308 32bit release and it won't install either so it's not specifically an x64 issue.

I have an ASRock 939Dual MB with a A64 3700+

Bug it. Post in the newsgroups. As of right now, if you have it "legally", you're able to do that. Nevermind the impending release of the CPP.

The same problem happened with alot of people with the winbeta release. Learning from a friend who is a beta tester but downloaded it of via bittorrent :ph34r: he said that if you put in the winbeta key, this happens, but if he had put in the legit key he got from connect, he didn't have that problem

Dunno about the key, but 5308 won't install either with the key I successfully used before. I am trying to install this on a different system, so it might be a hardware issue.
