2. I wish I had seen this earlier, however, it was a gift so its not like i payed anything for it. Wouldn't be bad though if I wanted to go shower/do something else while leaving my can of Coke or whatever near the computer.

I received one as a gift. The plate does get cold, but the problem I realized even when I tried to build one of my own several months ago. The surface area on the bottom of a regular soda can is actually very small due to the fact of the dome underneath, it allows just a very small ring of aluminum to actually be in contact with the cooler plate, thereby drastically reducing heat transfer. My solution, eventually is to make a mold of the bottom of a can and cast a separate piece in liquid aluminum, so there is a solid piece of aluminum that comes in contact solidly with both the can and the plate. Plus it would be removable to clean, or place another glass on the cooler.
