I dont find flock all that good...

The features that it does include by default, most of them I dont use. And they are all avaliable through extensions for Firefox anyways. And the extensions that I do use are not avaliable for that browser.

And also, it's just Firefox with the engine updated slower than Firefox. I dont see how that is desirable...

And in any case, IMO Flock violates the entire design concept of an extensible browser, which is that the basic functions are provided and whatever extras that the users do need can be installed separately through extensions.

Is it possible to change the Yahoo instant search to that of Google's?

Yes, just click the little hour glass thingie to bring down the drop down search results/menu and choose Search Preferences, then you'll see in there where to change the default search engine.

I'm not sure what code base it uses, I'm sure it is FF 1.5 or later though. And as I said above, most FF extensions will not work with Flock right now. You can try the Flock'd thingy, but it doesn't always work.

Check out the UA string in Help->About Flock?? (haven't used it so not sure)...look for something with rv. 1.8.1, hopefully its 1.8.1 so that the codebase is updated and not insecure.

I'm really digging the search box more than anything actually. You type and as you type results come up, heheh. It'a an ajax enabled browser!

Firefox 2.0a2 does this also ;) just letting you know that its probably using this from in the codebase and not some new feature for them.

i think Tigger means the top 5 results from yahoo that are generated as you type.

i personally HATE yahoo, and would like to get the top 5 from google, is that possible?

Ah, that I don't know. I will look through their forums and help/faq's to see if I can find out. I'd rather have Google there as well. They have a neato custom Google search page, I don't see why not.

Do we really need ANOTHER browser?

The more variation we have in terms of browsers the more that developers will have to adopt web standards... I'm not saying that Flock helps this, as it's basically just Firefox, however it gives people more choice and that certainly isn't a bad thing.

This post was made using Flock (after painlessly importing all my cookies), though I'll be going back to Firefox because I miss my extensions.

They only just released the first beta, and the first batch of widely used extensions. I'm sure given enough time, any extensions that you, or anyone else uses will be ported over to work with Flock. You can always try Flock'd of course to see if you can get it to work now.

Personally, once I installed Flock the other day, I haven't looked back. It's now my default browser, and...wow. It's just amazing.

Yes, it is pretty amazing isn't it (Y)

Yes. I was asking about the yahoo instant search results that appear as you type the search query. I would rather have Google instant search results there.

Also, I have another problem w/ blogging. I am publishing to my own hosted WordPress and the entry appears three times. Does anyone else get this?

Nope, never heard of that one before. Maybe you should check out their forums and see if anyone else has that problem.

I thought about it, but after seeing that the bookmark toolbar's bookmarks couldn't be moved elsewhere i dumped it back for firefox, although i do like the the drop-down menu for the bookmark's tho, it would be great to see it as a firefox extension :p

Like this?

First I'm no expert, I'm only pointing this out for an answer.

I have ProcessGuard installed on my PC and when I installed this it gave me an alert. I knew it was coming always does when installing software. But because I don't REALLY know the makers I checked it out carefully anyway.

So what was surprising to me is that this software when it installed check my system for all my security software. All my protected software was trying to be read. Why on earth does it need to read my software?? Just so there is no confusion. Firefox does NOT do this. Any Ideas? thoughts? I'm only asking here, not accusing. But I have installed a few other apps and none tried to read my protected software.

    • I am one of the first people to use the DXVK technology. In the channel below you can see some videos that I have made using this technology, including Assassin's Creed Odyssey. https://www.youtube.com/@nahum7995/videos Assassin's Creed Odyssey experienced several bugs and technical issues during its first months after release. It launched with its own fair share of funny but frustrating glitches. I ran it on DXVK 9 days after its release and I played it for many hours but didn't see a single significant bug on Linux. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is widely celebrated for pushing the franchise in bold new directions and specifically for nailing several elements better than any other title in the AC series: Player Choice & Branching Narrative, The Mercenary & Cultist System, Mythological Integration, Overpowered Combat Abilities, Open World Exploration But what I'm trying to point out is that this game wasn't quite playable on most windows systems, until a few months after its release when most of the bugs were fixed. However, on Linux it ran completely flawless from day one, although DXVK had seen little development and refinement at the time. What do you think the situation will be in 2026 now that most bugs and glitches of DXVK have been completely eliminated? This is information from Google about these situations that I am quoting. In many cases, using DXVK (a translation layer that converts DirectX 9, 10, or 11 into Vulkan) can result in more stable frame times and higher performance than native Windows rendering. This happens primarily by bypassing driver overhead and multithreading draw calls that were previously restricted to a single CPU core. Older APIs (like DirectX 9 and 11) are largely single-threaded on the CPU side. DXVK translates these calls to Vulkan, which is highly multi-threaded. This reduces CPU-bound stuttering on weaker processors. In certain cases, GPU manufacturers (especially AMD) have significantly better and more modern Vulkan drivers than they do for legacy DirectX. Vulkan gives developers—and in this case, the translation layer—closer control over how resources are held in VRAM. This can prevent micro-stutters and sudden frame drops during chaotic gameplay. Yes, certain games, particularly older DirectX 9 to 11 titles, can run with fewer crashes on DXVK than on native Windows. By intercepting DirectX draw calls and translating them into the modern, highly efficient Vulkan API, DXVK bypasses the limitations and poor driver support that cause instability in aging game engines. PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 can be easily and perfectly emulated on Linux. In fact, modern Linux emulators offer high-performance upscaling, widescreen patches, and automatic controller mapping out of the box.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 PlayStation 1/2/3 games look drastically better on Linux thanks to resolution upscaling. Furthermore, it is also a fact that you cannot play many fun games on Windows either, isn't it? - The Nintendo Switch has an extensive library of exclusive games. - PlayStation has an extensive library of exclusive games - Android has "mobile-exclusive" games, meaning they are exclusive to mobile devices (iOS and Android) and aren't available on PC or consoles. And finally, it is also the case that in the next five years there will be games that millions of people will say you absolutely must play and that they want to play this specific game that released a few days ago. However, the other side of this story is that currently, absolutely no one cares that they cannot play these upcoming games right now.
