Bill Gates transitioning out of company

Recommended Posts

Eh...I thought he was stepping down as the chairman or something major like that. Wow....there are like 3-4 threads about this already.

"Bill Gates will transition out of a day-to-day role in Microsoft effective July 2008 to spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and will continue to serve as the company?s chairman and an advisor on key development projects. Ray Ozzie assumes the title of chief software architect and will begin working side by side with Gates on all technical architecture and product oversight responsibilities, while Craig Mundie takes the new title of chief research and strategy officer and will work closely with Gates to assume his responsibility for the company?s research and incubation efforts."

yeah...i mean, he's still technically head of the company....just not in a day-to-day position like the CSA requires...

So...Mr G is no longer the Big Cheese anymore?

yes, he still is...

Maybe this is an indication that Vista or some other future product really sucks and BillG wants to be out of the way when the negative reviews start pouring in...

Or maybe he has been for awhile hinting that he wants to work closer with his charity foundation? No.. that can't be it.

Ummm...no. He's still the Chairman, after all - he's not cutting all ties.

    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
