@hotmail.com, @msn.com used to be part of the Microsoft .NET Passport Network, later renamed the "Microsoft Passport Network", and now, instead of all of those accounts being Microsoft Passports, they're Windows Live IDs.

So when you say you used an "msn ID", you're wrong - all you used was a Windows Live ID with a @msn.com domain.

ok my bad, no big deal. i made a mistake in my post. dont be trying to cause trouble people on neowin

It's weird. If i use en-us setting for IE, i get a link on the messenger site file://transfer/transfer/ajenks/Install_Messenger.exe

If i use en-au setting however, i get http://g.msn.com/1csbeta/Mess80_EN , the normal beta link.

And is it just me, when I'm using en-us setting, http://get.live-int.com redirects me to ideas.live.com. I encountered ONCE that the page actually loaded, as Ambroos said.

Yes, I think I get some more broken links than the rest in this thread, because my Swedish locale attempts to host me localized pages. But some pages actually do work, and then they're fully localized. :)

Basically, it's not too weird. They're simply hosting pages differently depending on your locale to adapt the content best for you, and now on this unfinished website, not all localized content is done, so they might just serve you a regular page instead of a new experimental one.

Just found new download link!!! Now checking build number...

Same build as before but there are new links which will later provide access to the real final!

http://g.msn.com/8reen_us/EN/INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_DL.EXE (ENGLISH)

http://g.msn.com/8reen_us/NL/INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_DL.EXE (DUTCH)

Replace EN or NL with any other language.

They just added a picture to the site!

http://get.live.com/messenger/comingsoon

i notice that.this morning. then about an hour ago i saw that new flare thing next to the picture and the picture streach a bit. so they must be updating and buliding that site as we speak.

My locale is set to Australia. Now here's my question:

Install_Messenger_nous.exe (14.5MB)

Install_Messenger.exe (15.3MB)

I got presented with two different links above. Why is there two versions with different file sizes? They're both from official site. What's the difference?

The bottom one is a US one while the top on is an Non US one, maybe the US has added stuff in it

Yea...that's my question. I wonder what exactly is the "added stuff"? Seeing they're both English what can make up the extra 0.8MB in the US version?

I notice that the Netherland version (the link posted from a few post before) is also 14.5MB.

I think the added US stuff is the Rhapsody music service, not 100% sure though.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
    • Now disable that stupid OneDrive backup request when Windows starts please. So unbelievably frustrating to only have “remind me later” instead of “no and never ask me again”
