Why did they introduce advertisements?

While this is beta, Live Messenger isn't... Your sig needs updating.

Ads were introduced in version 7.5, I believe.

Ah yes I do. I just got home, give me time.

Happy? :p

I found out how to completely remove the ads (registry key) so I'm happy... I dig the new version... I've seen people complain about stability issues, but I'm sure they'll keep making it better... Love the interop between Live Messenger now... Hope that turns out to work well.

Suppose I should...

Using regedit, open up HKCU\Software\Yahoo\pager\YUrl. Create a new String entry named "Messenger Ad", and give it a value of "*" (no quotes).

Thanks!

if you remove the ads, does it leaves any blank spaces?

Nope! :)

LOL I was beat... No, the window isn't there... Gone... No ads no wasted space... This is apparently something that people did with 7.5... And still works with the shiney new 8.0 beta... I think they ought to keep it around, don't you?

Oh absolutely!

I just saw another clue to this being the version to contact Windows Live users with.

Check this, although when click it, I get this : http://mm5.msg.sc5.yahoo.com/morpheus/inde...n&ver=8.0.0.505

I think this will be the best verson of yahoo messenger ever. I started useing yahoo messenger around verson 5.6. ( alough I barely remember using versons 5.0-5.5, though i dont quite remember 100 % ) I also remember waiting a long time for verson 6.0 to come, cause of its major updates it took forever. I think yahoo verson 7.5 was a big mistake as they could have added the PC to PC calling feature in Yahoo messenger 8.0.

good job yahoo this has to be the best verson of yahoo messenger you ever made.

Yea.. I think so too. Both v7.5 and 8.0 should of been more like 7.1 and 7.2 because of lack of major changes. Yahoo seems almost scared to released major changes UI or otherwise. Now granted the new plugins and the WLM/yahoo interop are pretty big things but they arent UI.. IMHO, major versions like a 8.0 should require major UI changes. Not just a few new icons here and there..

We need a msg plus kind of service for yahoo messenger. Also when will they learn, NO, dont set the program to run every friggin time i start the PC. ITs bloated, i dont always chat, and i dont like programs turning themselves on every time i turn the pc. Also they dont provide access to program preferences before anyone signs in.

ONe thing they did improve was that main window size now is remembered whereas in 7.5 the window would always expand after you try to sign in because sign in screen was too much bloated.

I agree this is such a huge yahoo update ( should be its a wooping 22.64 MB) with all the extras like plug-ins,PC-to-PC calling, blog with in the IM. we should at least have a major UI change. We had this same UI since Verson 6.0. that came out about 2-3 years ago.

One feature i'd like to see in Yahoo messenger 8.0 is the chance to check your E-mail with in the IM or the main window.or even a mail preview will be nice.,

i'm having a felling this will be the most popluar and best yahoo messenger verson ever.

    • It's time to say goodbye to Edge and switch back to Firefox. There's no way to disable the ugly rounded corners that appear everywhere. Not even on the page frame. No one uses screens with rounded corners, you idiots.
    • Being on Github makes it more trustable since I can see the code at any point.
    • Gen Atlas is the next game from Shadow of the Colossus creator, this time with giant robots by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The mind behind widely well-received games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, showed up at Summer Game Fest today, and that was to reveal his latest project. Being developed by genDESIGN, Gen Atlas is incoming with what looks to be plenty of mech and robot action. Watch the reveal trailer, which makes not much sense, above. The game will have players waking up on an abandoned planet where deserted facilities and grand designs from the original creators remain. Soon, they will stumble upon a colossal robot, from which players gain access to the power to change the world. "Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more," adds the studio. The gameplay snippets seen in the trailer show the player character climbing giant robots (as expected from the creator), while also controlling these titans somehow as well. This is a fully single-player open-world adventure. “The team and I are grateful to all the fans who’ve been eager to learn more about our game,” says Fumito Ueda, CEO and creative director of genDESIGN. “Their passion and enthusiasm has always motivated and inspired us. We hope to share an experience that inspires moments of quiet wonder and discovery.” Before gaining the name Gen Atlas, Ueda first announced this project back in 2024 with the codename Project Robot. Interestingly, this will be a project being funded and published by Epic Games, which should mean that a Steam release is out of the question. Gen Atlas will be releasing on Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • How backwards can you have it? Yes, Linux was gaining because of Linux handhelds and the push for gaming compatibility, but that's not desktop users, it barely converts anyone who owns a SteamDeck, though it helps for those who wanted to do it, but anyways, the AI+RAM debacle helped Linux because people can't easily upgrade their PCs easily and many hate AI so they'd be incentivized to try Linux.
