Yahoo! Messenger with Voice 8.0.506 Beta

Recommended Posts

Personally I don't get ads in the main messenger list with either 7.5 or 8.0.

Keep in mind about this new version, that it's extremely buggy as hell (as most Yahoo builds are). I've allready found several bugs, 1 with the iTunes plugin that can crash Yahoo without notice.

Its too early to judge as it is in beta but i dont like that it is showing my actual name on the messenger from account settings rather than my nick. Big no for privacy while chatting.

you can always use Microsoft paint and cover up your name/ yahoo ID and just click the Triangle for the contatcs so they wont show

Yes i can always do that but let me clear what i said.

What i meant was that when i chat with people, in the chat window, it shows my Real name from Yahoo's Account Profile rather than the nick name (or the account ID) as it should. That's not nice because if a stranger initiates chat with me, he gets my real name! The RED blocks in the follow screenshots is where it shows the real name. Not nice. It should show Yahoo ID. I guess they are trying to be efficient but no thanks, let me choose who i share my name with.

Yahoo released an update to their 8.0.505 beta. They also apparently released an update to their stable version of 7.5.814. New build 819.

YM 8.0.506 - No change log yet - But I have noticed this new build isnt as much of a memory hog.

Is there just an update for US users or is there an update for UK etc users aswell?

Alright so it's cool, and I'm using it even though I have no one on my list.... But the only thing that bugs me is the excessive amounts of RAM the thing uses. Right off the bat, with no windows open, sitting in tray it's taking up over 40mb of RAM. Not even Windows Live Messenger takes up that much space... How hard is it to optimize the messenger Yahoo? I've been complaining about the usage for years.

Another thing, the iTunes plugin automatically opens iTunes and then doesn't let you close it until you disable the plugin. Ugh, waste... Nonetheless, still interesting.

Personally, I rather them fix the nickname bug. And the bugs people experence with display pictures.

Although, with the iTunes plugin, I don't like the purple skin it has.

you can change it to a blue skin or clasic skin < the clasic skin uses your OS GUI as it's look>

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
    • Yeah, all web browsers seem to have some junk in them these days. The regular Brave browser has a lot of unnecessary stuff in it, similar to Microsoft Edge, so I don't see any benefits of using Brave over Microsoft Edge if you already have Microsoft Edge fully set up with adblockers and that. The cleanest or best free browser outside of 'Microsoft Edge' I’ve tried so far is 'Opera Air'. It still has some bloat, but nowhere near as much as Brave browser, for example. I also really like the web browser called 'Floorp' that is based on Firefox. I have a system wide Adblocking program for Windows 11 that doesn't just blocks ads in the the web browser, but over the whole thing. I don't really need a web browser with an inbuilt adblocker because of that.
