I know some of you may think of this as a chain post or whatever, i just urge you to read it, and watch the videos, she was a stunning, innocent 17 year old girl, who did not deserve such a horrific death. Please just watch the videos and read about her, this really makes you appreciate what you have!!!

This news is absoloutly MASSIVE in online communities such as MySpace, where her death has had a worldwide effect on so many people, i just thought i would share it here with you guys.

Anna was stabbed at random while she was working at McDonalds one night. She made it to the hospital and died in the hospital at 9:00 that night. This shouldn't be happening. The man that stabbed her is being charged with murder. He shouldn't be living. A life for a life. Anna was such a sweet beautiful girl. Remember to enjoy the time given to you and appreciate your loved ones, friends and family alike, since you never know when your time comes or if your life will be taken from you. She has touched people around the world. She's got people in the UK crying. She was graduating this June. She missed her birthday.

Stabbing of Vancouver teen hits community hard

02:35 PM PDT on Friday, April 21, 2006

By TERESA BELL and KRISTINA BRENNEMAN, kgw.com Staff

VANCOUVER -- The deadly stabbing of a 17-year-old girl who made everyone smile is tearing the Vancouver community apart, said the Vancouver police chief Friday.

Anna Svidersky, a Fort Vancouver High School senior, was stabbed in the chest by a stranger while working at McDonald's Thursday night, said Police Chief Brian Martinek at a news conference.

"It's tearing us apart, quite frankly," he said. "There's no magic wall around Vancouver. We've had two young girls killed in the last six months," referring to the November 2005 murder of 14-year-old Chelsea Harrison.

Svidersky, who would have graduated in June, was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland where she died around 9 p.m. Thursday. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning, Martinek said.

The suspect, David Barton Sullivan, was charged with first-degree murder Friday morning.

Police collect evidence at the crime scene.

"We preliminarily determined he had an intent to kill," Martinek said. "The suspect armed with a knife walked into one of the doors of McDonalds.... found the victim at a table and stabbed the victim. There's not a whole lot of question about what happened and who did it."

Sullivan, a registered sex offender in Washington state, will be arraigned on the murder charge April 28. He also has a criminal history that includes kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment, according to court records.

Nancy Faaren, principal at Fort Vancouver High School said Svidersky's death "is a very sad day for Fort Vancouver High School. Svidersky was "well-liked by students and staff alike. She will be greatly missed by students and staff."

The senior had a good sense of humor and contagious laugh, and juggled several jobs as well as full-class load, she said.

School counselors would be helping students with their grief, Faaren said.

From her myspace she's a bit misguided, she's 17 though, and I wouldn't hold anything against her. Rest well girl I don't know.

As for her killer, I am not an eye for an eye person. However, I am still pro capital punishment and put this man under my favorite section.

"Useless contribution to society, to be immediately removed."

I have just found her dedicated website

http://www.annasvidersky.net/

With a condolence message from Billy Talent, and a condolence book that i have never seen the like, it was getting a new message every few seconds i was there, this girls death is unreal

Why was this guy even walking around???

Why was this guy even walking around???

I don't know. I don't know why we don't just execute these wastes of human life like this. There should be no jail time, nothing. You murder someone, you get a bullet through the head the day after you're convicted. End of story. Same with rapists. It should be automatic castration so there is no way they can ever do it again.

I dont know myself why this is such a massive news item online, but reading her condolence book is unreal, there is a message every few seconds i just dont know where these people are coming from i have read messages from as far stretch as Australia and Venuzela

This sort of thing happens all over the place and on a daily basis. I don't see why this person gains any more notoriety than the others. So she worked at McDonald's and had a MySpace... big deal. I guess people must have felt sorry for her for two reasons: 1) She was young, and 2) She's Canadian.

You guys are extremely insensitive.

Actually makes me sick to read some of your heartless responses.

Who gives a **** that her story is making more attention than others. A human being was still MURDERED. Some of you need to seriously grow up.

I have to agree with Wave, if you take the time to read about this girls, read her messages and read the messages people have left, this is certainly nothing ordinary!

For instance;

http://www.annasvidersky.net/condolences/gbook.php?page=1

Keep refreshing that page there is a new condolence message every few seconds...i have never seen anything like this...the UK newspaper the Guardian refered to this to be as big as Diana Princess Of Wales death, but the online version....THAT is how big this is!

It's sad and stuff but I don't see why it's getting any more attention than the other thousands of senseless murders that happen every day. Just because she has a Myspace?

Exactly. I dont understand it either. A black boy in Compton gets shot/stabbed and nobody gives a ****.

Um no I think its YOU that need to grow up, open your eyes and look at the world.

People get shot/stabbed/murdered/raped/kidnapped everyday. Yes of course I feel bad that she got stabbed randomly and of course send my condolences out to the family but its not a big deal. Its just another dead person. Lifes goes on for the rest of us who arent directly linked to the famliy.

RIP to her

While this is sad, it's nothing out of the ordinary.

To keep a massive worldwide mourning occurring to me is rather strange because unnecessary deaths and murders occur all the time. People are in tears due to the death of one girl, yet they fail to realize this girl is one of many.

Perhaps the Neowin crowd will side with the idea that many people realize it, but I sincerely doubt it.

May she R.I.P. with all the others who die for no cause/reason.

Why was this guy even walking around???

well from what I remember when this story was fresh, since I live prety close to Vancover so it was a major story here in NW oregon. His parents were sposto be taking care of him and making sure he was taking his meds. but as we know, he didnt take any meds that day, whitch led to him murdering Anna.

now for the people who are talking about the fact that she had a my space and was 17 years old.

  • just becasue she had a my space doesnt mean its her falt that she died. She was just doing her job that night, minding her own business wipeing down tables. she didnt even know the guy. He didnt even know her. If i remember he said "she was just minding her own business,..." it's not like a child meloster case or a kid geting kidnaped or raped. This has nothing to do with her having a my space , let alone the interent.

just a thought ...

Exactly. I dont understand it either. A black boy in Compton gets shot/stabbed and nobody gives a ****.

Reason why that was posted by that memember is because the first few posts were all talking about she having a my space and they think she was killed cause the guy saw her on my space. ( since theres a lot of my space in the news) But this case HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY SPACE.

I Agree with you on people geitng kidnaped, raped, murdered shot and stabed.

buit i thought just to add on to what that poster ment.

I am sorry, but you're just being ridiculous and over sensitive.

This is sad, yes, but s**t like this happens every day. There are much bigger issues happening every single day that deserve our attention. If this guy who killed her was mentally ill then honestly there is not much that should be done to him. His parents (or who ever) was supposed to be caring for him, they should be held accountable for his actions based on there negligence.

Grow up? Take your own advice my friend, there are much bigger issues effecting many more people than just this girl.

A few reasons I think. Her co-workers were unable to stop the murder when it was happening. But moreso it's because of the media (somedays i think the media is the worst political machine running... forget govts, war, and terrorism... these 'journalists' produce sensationalistic crap to manipulate peoples ideas thots and feelings)... anyways...

I think its moreso because of his picture. It was bandied about like a poster for evil, and was intended to draw harsh criticism. A 'journalist' produced this and mascaraded around the horrific murder (im not demeaning it) as if its worthy of more attention that any other murders, rapes, other horrible crimes that happen. Perhaps to further their own agenda. I hope not cause I would grant pity on them if they took the memory of that girls death to better their career.

The picture, upon sight, is meant to induce a sense of repugnant disdain by the viewer. Make the vewer believe the perpetrator is evil and should rot in hell. It plays on human emotion and is manipulating. Because of all the coverage and obsene responses it got it created more press coverage and hail storm follows.

Aren't we all so luck to have the media conglomerates, who exist not to bring news, but to show us the worst news there is. Because happy and good news doesnt sell. Death and destruction sells.

We sell ads. We don't sell newspapers we make a paper put ads in that paper and shove a bit of stories in between those ads.

We need to grow up b/c we are 'heartless'. Ok. I understand its a horrific tragedy, and it is upsetting even though personally I bet nobody here has ever met her. But it's equally immature for the press to capitalize on one girls murder, portray it like a tragedy, and then a few night later on the local news you hear how some dude near where u live got killed at a convenient store robbery. The duration of that news article - 10 seconds.

Who's immature and heartless? What about when you've lost someone because they were stolen from you, and you felt how horrible it was. Except their face didnt get on tv. Nobody made a fuss to see their murderer or rapist caught!

Tell me, What should I have said to my friend after she got raped? What should I have said to my cousin right before he committed suicide. What should I have said about my friends murder. Let alone how I felt. What do you say to a kid after they were sexually abused? What do you say about molestation to that kid? How do you say "It wasn't your fault" and make them believe you.

Don't tell me I need to grow up! I've shed enough tears already over people and grown up because you have to when bad things happen. I'm sorry about her murder, and I have felt sincere sorrow and sadness. But it's upsetting to see one murder given the press attention of the world and so many other crimes fall by the wayside!!!

P.S. I'm sorry and dont mean to upset anyone more. It's just this upsets me when there is already too much going on in the world. I think a nice safe island away, with a girl someday to have kids with sounds nice. A small neighborhood where the big crimes are speeding or perhaps jaywalking or worst being some local govt official was laundering money. No death, murder, or blood. :D

... : someday : ...

Well I agree with you on some stuff. but there are others that have gotten murdererd.

I agree with the part people need to grow up. Cause the ones that bitch saying she had a my space.

how would they fell if their kid died, and they had a my space ( the death wasn't conected to my space) but people were focusing on that then the acutal death and the killer.

and dont judge her pictures, thats a commen my space thing with teenage girls.

you have the right to express your opinion. and i'm agree with you. people need to grow up when they focus on slily things like my space.

I agree with you 100% on that one.

The media sometimes takes stuff and goes over board with it. It's just like with the two missing GI's that were found dead in iraq. The father of the one that was from Madras Oregon, said that comment, That the < the iraqis > were just doing their job. Now the whole damn media is foucsing on that coment then what actully happen.

i know if you know about that comment you might have your opinions on that. and i might start a topic on that. but lets not get off topic. i was just stating an example.

    • When I think about a network, there are really two aspects, the hardware and the wiring. So here is what I would do for both. Wiring: Use Cat6A for the patch panel and all structured cables (cables installed in walls). Run plenty of Wireless Access Point (WAP) cables, as a general rule, assume a signal can only pass through 2-3 walls and can't pass through a floor (that is conservative, but trust me on this if you want strong WiFi)  Cat6 patch cables are fine for now if you don't plan to run 10gig, those are easy to replace later if needed. Run OS2 single-mode fiber to anywhere you think you may have a server or sub-switch. (yes, single-mode for everything on a small network, don't mess with multimode unless you have entire racks of servers and that minor module cost and power savings will matter). If you really want to future proof, also run fiber to any high density WAP locations, it is likely that WiFi 8 WAPs will push the limits of 10g. Run 6-12 pairs of single-mode fiber between your MDF and the building's MDF, even if you only need 1 or 2 pairs now, those extra pairs will pay off down the road. Hardware: (its easy to say "get all the features incase you need them", so instead of futureproofing, I am going to take approach of suggesting areas worth investing in, and areas you can save money). Don't overspend thinking you need every feature on every port. You don't need 10g on every port, you don't need PoE on every port. Don't overspend on redundancy either, unless you are ready to buy two of everything, don't waste money buying two of some things and not others. Dual power supplies are worthwhile, but probably not HA or multi-path redundancy.  Get 1 "distribution layer" switch that your router/firewall will connect to, your access layer switches. This should be a 10g switch with a combination of copper and SPF ports and should be a fully managed switch. Given that you said it is a small network, I suggest also using that distribution layer switch for servers and WAPs, meaning it will need PoE. Speaking of wireless, get good professional tri-band WAPs, and either turn on the band stirring options, or limit 2.4 to an IoT only SSID. This will provide a solid WiFi capable nearly everything but the highest of bandwidth clients...you could even consider skipping wiring workstations depending on usage. Access layer switch for workstations and printers can be cheaper switches, 2.5g is a good sweet spot between price and future proofing, but even 1g is fine for most individual clients (the kind that could probably be fine on WiFi). You can consider saving a little on access layer switches by only getting 1 PoE switch for whatever needs it (remember your WAPs are connecting to the distribution switch, not here), and non-PoE for your workstations, because desk phones are falling out of favor. You can also save money here by not buying managed switches if you don't need them--but really do some soul searching there, if you go this route, then anything that isn't on your workstation VLAN would either need to be connected to the distribution switch, or its own switch. Also, don't feel like you need a fancy fabric stacking switches for your access layer, that is the point of the higher-end distribution layer, to remove the need for things like that at this level. Home Hardware: I'm realizing the above assumed an office setting, if this if for your house and home lab then the above still applies, but you'll probably want everything managed and PoE, just because, but you probably also don't need multiple access layer switches. if your total port count is below 24, just skip separating distribution layer and access layer and just get one nice switch with the features you want. For home use, don't worry about home running every device to the main switch, there is nothing wrong with running sub-switches for your media areas and office, those essentially become your access layer, just look for sub-switches with a 10g uplink so sharing bandwidth isn't an issue.
    • Google Meet brings Gemini note-taking to AI Pro and Ultra subscribers by Karthik Mudaliar Google's Gemini-powered "Take notes for me" feature inside Google Meet is now available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. The features work on Google Meet for web as well as on mobile, and Google says that subscribers can use it for meetings they host in many supported languages. As the name suggests, "Take notes for me" allows Gemini to listen to a meeting, generate a summary, identify action items, and save the notes as a Google Doc in the user’s Drive. After the meeting, the organizer receives an email recap with the summary and action items, while the notes can also be attached to the related Calendar event depending on the meeting setup and sharing settings. The feature isn't automatically turned on for everyone, though. Google says that all meeting participants are notified when note-taking is turned on, and users can start it from the pencil icon in Meet or enable it for future calls through Meet’s meeting records settings. For work or school accounts, administrators can also control whether the feature is available and may require explicit participant consent for note-taking, recording, or transcription features. The feature first launched back in 2024, when it was available just for selected Workspace users. Over the years, Google added refinements and more options, including the ability to enable it when scheduling meetings via Google Calendar. Google's support docs say that the feature currently supports English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, but only one language at a time. Meetings with multiple spoken languages are not currently supported, and Google recommends using the tool for meetings between 15 minutes and eight hours. The new feature makes Google Meet closer to its rivals that have AI tools already built in. Microsoft Teams has recently started offering Copilot and intelligent recap features that summarize meetings, surface highlights, and help with follow-ups, while Zoom’s AI Companion can also generate meeting summaries from desktop and mobile meetings.

    • Microsoft finally launches WSL Containers in public preview by David Uzondu Microsoft has announced that WSL containers, a feature that allows developers to run Linux containers natively inside Windows without the need for Docker Desktop, is now available in public preview several weeks after Microsoft previewed it at Build 2026. To use the new container feature, you first have to install the latest pre-release version of the Windows Subsystem for Linux by running a quick update command in your terminal: wsl --update --pre-release After installing, you'd get access to the new Linux container CLI (wslc.exe) and the programmable API. Microsoft said that the CLI has a "familiar format" that matches the toolsets developers already use every day. If you know standard Docker commands, your muscle memory will translate directly to wslc.exe, which even features a built-in alias called container.exe. You can quickly run a full Ubuntu KDE desktop container by exposing ports, or pass your graphics card straight into a machine learning environment to run PyTorch workloads. Passing the --gpus all flag inside the run command instantly links your hardware. Image via Microsoft As for the API, developers can now embed Linux container operations directly inside native Windows applications without exposing the command line to users. The team integrated the API directly into MSBuild and CMake, so developers can define container steps directly in project files. Apart from bringing the CLI and API into public preview, Microsoft also said that it's working on a new default file system called virtiofs to speed up file transfer rates between Windows and Linux. Microsoft also introduced an experimental networking mode named consomme, which resolves compatibility issues with corporate VPNs by routing Linux network traffic straight through Windows. One thing to note about WSL containers is that they don't run in your standard WSL distributions; instead, every application and CLI session spawns its own lightweight Hyper-V utility VM in the background. This basically reduces the chances of one app snooping on the container of another app.
    • Google reportedly limited Meta's Gemini access over limited AI compute by Karthik Mudaliar Google is reportedly limiting Meta's use of its Gemini AI models after Meta tried buying more computing capacity than even Google could supply. According to the Financial Times, Google told Meta in March that it could not provide the full Gemini capacity that Meta had requested. This shortfall even disrupted and delayed some of Meta's internal projects. Due to this, Meta even told its employees internally to use AI tokens more efficiently. Meta wasn't the only one to get hit by this sudden refusal by Google; even other customers were affected. But Meta was hit harder because of its unusually high demand for Google's models. The move from Google makes it evident that companies all over are in limited supply of both infrastructure and compute. Alphabet said in April that Google Cloud revenue grew 63% year-over-year to $20 billion in the first quarter, helped by enterprise AI infrastructure and AI solutions. In pursuit of more compute, Meta had earlier signed a multi-billion-dollar AWS agreement as well as a large AMD GPU deal for AI data centers. But the crunch would be short-lived as both Meta and Google have also ramped up infrastructure investments heavily. Meta said in November that it was committing more than $600 billion in the U.S. by 2028 for AI technology, infrastructure, and workforce expansion. In the first quarter of this year, Meta also raised its expected capital expenditure for 2026 to a range of $125 billion to $145 billion, citing higher component pricing and additional data center costs for future capacity. However, this doesn't make the company immune to the current dependence on outside suppliers. Meta has also spent many years promoting Llama as an open-weight alternative to closed models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. But if the reported reliance on Google's Gemini models is severe enough for internal work to get impacted, then it looks like even frontier labs and Big Tech aren't fully self-sufficient.
