As its mentioned by Microsoft in its CPP Program Website that:

'When you register for the Customer Preview Program you will receive the Beta 2 release plus Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) ? the next major pre-release of Windows Vista ? when it is available later this year.'

AND

'To start the order process, please select your country or region from the following list. When you order please try to use a shipping address that will not change for the next few months to ensure you will receive the RC1 shipment. (Shipping is only available to the countries and regions included in this list.'

Some Questions have came in my mind:

1) I have heard that People who have ordered Dvd kits will only get RC1 dvd kits, downloaders of beta 2 will not get it..ok i have got my 1 dvd kit ...second dvd kit is own its way!.so MY QUESTION IS THE DVD KIT OF RC1 WILL CHARGE EXTRA MONEY FROM MY CREDIT CARD OR THAT $19.39 IS INCLUDED CHARGE OF RC1 DVD KIT ALSO.?

2) AS I HAVE ORDERED 2 DVD KITS SO I WILL GET 2 RC1 KITS ALSO OR JUST 1?!

WAITING FOR REPLY!

I don't think that report is true or has been interpreted wrong by some groups of people. Both Downloaders of Beta 2 and people who order it will both get invited to have a copy of RC1 when it's available. The MS Web Site does not specifically say whether its for one group or another - just people who have joined the CPP.

In other words if you joined the CPP and got Beta 2 and activated it with Microsoft - you will be eligable for RC1 when it comes out later in the year. Microsoft point's out you have to have activated Beta 2 with Microsoft in order to be able to use RC1 for some reason. I am guessing maybe the product key were given is the same for the RC1 build as well and won't be issued any other key.

The builds are valid until June next year when they expire.

Can someone tell me when RC1 will be out ??? prox....i am a tester for the public beta2 ...and i DON'T WANNA DOWNLOAD the 5456 from other sources...i wanna work clean :p ..so,when we'll see the face of RC1 ??? aprox

Thenks,Vlad.

It'll be out when it's out! Why do people keep on begging for RC1 when Beta2 just came out?

Beta 2 ...hm....kind of beta 1 ....still slow, still full of "placeholders" ...but the problem is that IT'S STILL SLOOOOOW ....

I've heard that the 5456 it's better at speed...so ...i guess i know why people use the ThoRent ...microsoft won't give beta-testing to the ones that really would report the bugs and problems, not just play with vista like it is a game ...

I'm sorry but I beg to differ. Beta 2 is NOT slow. Atleast for me it isn't. Maybe its just your computer specs?

all i can say is that the BETA's can very from person -to- person and from PC -to- PC . it also depends on a number of things:

  • How the person uses the pc
  • what is done on the pc
  • the system specs.

there may be more. fell Free to add to my list. Just make sure you quote this post. :)

its means that its necessary for me to activate the product key which i got with dvd kit....otherwise i will not be eligable .

Microsoft Says:

When you order please try to use a shipping address that will not change for the next few months to ensure you will receive the RC1 shipment

which shows that its not necessary to activate it .The shipping addresses in their records of people who ordered are automatically eligable for getting RC1 shipment

This is not how I have read it on other site's. ANYONE who joined the CPP and have downloaded or ordered Beta 2 are eligable for RC1 - their site didn't say 'oh' you have to order it on CD before you get a copy of release candidate 1 in fact even if you order the Beta 2 CD it does make you eligable, however you still have to pay for shipping of the RC1 build on CD. Just buying the Beta 2 CD doesn't mean they will send you the RC1 for free ;)

The way I read it anyone who have got the Beta 2 release through the CPP and activated Windows Vista Beta 2 are able to also get RC1

When you register for the Customer Preview Program you will receive the Beta 2 release plus Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) — the next major pre-release of Windows Vista — when it is available later this year. The information on this page pertains to both Beta 2 and RC1.

The Customer Preview Program is available in a limited quantity both through download and DVD kit ordering. Once the allotted quantity has been reached the program will be closed and no new orders will be accepted.

There are two ways to get Windows Vista Beta 2:

1. Order the DVD kit and have it shipped to your home or office.

2. Download the ISO file to your PC

(An ISO file is an exact representation of a CD or DVD, including the content and the logical format. Once you download the ISO file, you’ll need to burn it to a DVD before you can install the software.)

also found this on engaget.com -

There are a limited number of Beta slots, and once they're gone they're gone, so we recommend moseying on over before you miss out on the real deal and have to hit your local torrent tracker. You'll need a DVD burner to create an install disc of Beta 2 and the Release Candidate 1 when it comes out -- signing up for the beta gets you both -- or you can give Microsoft $10 for shipping and production costs and they'll send you the goods in 2 to 4 weeks (by which time they'll surely be readying the release of the next Vista beta build).

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

That is your problem.

I ran both Beta 2 (5384) and the latest build 5456 and they both perform smoothly on my 2GB of ram.

Don't shoot the messenger mate - this is quoted from other web site source not by my own knowledge of anything. I did read it on another forum they believed that you have to pay for shipment of RC1 as well as Beta 2 The shipment payment for Beta 2 was only for Beta 2. and I KNOW how much the Kit costs already ;) it was mis quoted on a few sites though. There's a lot of confusion on the charges in general however at least you may of got your answer for the most part on the RC1 Kit.

Anyway don't blame the messenger just the sources ;)

As for as the CPP is concerned though I am sure the rest is true for downloaded versions because it generally states any one who registered on the CPP and ordered Beta 2 - while this can be read as 'ordering' on CD to be eligible for RC1 as it does look like that it can also be read as online ordering as a download transaction on the program.

Anyway what ever the truth is I hope Microsoft offer this RC1 to people who have joined the CPP and used the download method. All I have to say on this..

oh by the way you do have to have Beta 2 activated in order to be able to use RC1

EDIT: Just visited http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/, and apparently you have to activate your copy in order to recieve RC1. So it seems that once you register (it's expected that you'll activate it and use it anyways) and activate it, you'll recieve RC1.

Be Sure to Activate Your Copy of Windows Vista Beta2 !

posted Monday, June 12, 2006 1:58 PM by Winblog

Please let us underscore a very important point surrounding Windows Vista Beta2 that can be easily overlooked in all the excitement to download and install the code: it is very important that every user activate Windows Vista Beta2 within the first 14 days of installation. Activation allows us at Microsoft to test our support infrastructure as well as the activation process itself. In addition, we'll be unable to provide you with a copy of RC1 (Release Candidate 1, the release subsequent to Beta2) unless your copy of Beta2 is activated.

Second, please take into account that all users of Windows Vista Beta2 will require a product key for installation. Once the CPP (Customer Preview Program) is closed, a customer should not attempt to download and install the bits unless s/he already has a product key. Otherwise, the code will not install.

Last, we understand that customers may be looking for faster ways to download Windows Vista Beta2 due to the high demand being experienced and we've become aware of alternative public channels that have cropped up to deliver the product in parallel. We must state that we cannot encourage those interested in using and testing the code to utilize these alternate channels. However, we can recommend that you visit the Windows Vista Beta2 Get Ready web site to either download Beta2 or order the DVD.

This is a quote, don't shoot me if you read some thing different - I have read so many stories regarding this its driving me around the bend LOL :D

as already told, 512MB on Vista is like to have 128MB on XP. On a 1GB system Vista usualy have over 600MB only for the system / base process

MS was using 2 GB of ram at WinHEC showing off Beta 2.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I heard 2 diferent things, That the RC1 bulid will only be open for download. and that the RC1 bulid will have the DVD option also.

So What one is it?

btw, to the topic starter, the article you posted on the front page says that the RC1 will be for download only. whats your source?

cool_chris..

buddy will u quote my saying in which i said RC1 will be only for downloaders only.

RC1 will be for both downloads and in DVD..

as far as i came 2 know ..participants who paid for DVD kits for vista beta 2 ...have also paid for RC1 shipping and dvd production ....included in BETA 2 DVD cost. means they will get RC1 automatically (BUT ONLY WHEN THEY WILL ACTIVATE BETA 2 product keys which they got in dvd kit.) and CPP downloaders of beta 2 will get RC1 download link when they will activate the product keys which they got in their emails.)

simple (NO ACTIVATION OF PRODUCT KEY... NO RC1)

NOW no 1 knows if there will be another option OF individual RC1 dvd kit when its available..let see what happens

    • Yes, Scoop was created to promote Coreutils for Windows. You can still see early versions of their website on the Web Archive. It was a joke that nobody took seriously. Microsoft's implementation of Coreutils, however, are built in Rust.
    • Looks like EA's Star Wars Zero Company will be out this August by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Over a year ago, EA surprise announced that a team of former Firaxis members is working on a brand-new Star Wars game. Dubbed Zero Company, the title would have XCOM-like turn-based tactics gameplay as players manage a squad of professionals from all over the galaxy. Now, just ahead of an official announcement, it looks like the release date has leaked out. The upcoming Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday is when EA is supposed to show off the title's gameplay footage, with fans also expecting it to reveal a release date. However, the ever-reliable billbil-kun from Dealabs says they have already managed to find out when the game is coming out and what versions fans will have the option of purchasing. Per the leak, Star Wars Zero Company has an August 27, 2026, release date attached to it. The title is slated to release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 with a $49.99 standard and $59.99 Deluxe edition. The leaker also adds that there won't be any early access perk attached to this special edition. Pre-orders could kick off alongside the official announcement this Friday, too. For those unfamiliar with the title, Bit Reactor is developing Star Wars Zero Company with help from Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. The EA-published title is said to be set during the "twilight of the Clone Wars." We will have to wait and see if base building and management mechanics from the XCOM series will be present here, too. "You will step into the shoes of Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company — an unconventional outfit of professionals for hire hailing from across the galaxy," reads the game description. "Hawks and Zero Company are recruited for an operation that pits them against an emerging threat that will consume the galaxy if left unchecked. To succeed, Hawks will lead a team of uneasy allies who must set aside their differences to overcome nearly impossible odds." You can catch the Star Wars Zero Company extended gameplay reveal at the Summer Game Fest showcase that's kicking off on Friday at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET.
    • All their other games always had a new cast and new story, so that's not very surprising. The new dev is worrisome though.
    • New dev usually means more trash. I also despise that they censored the 1 remake.
