Anyone else having problems of links opening one speed dial if clicked on external application on opera 33+windows 10 10525?

All Chromium and Chrome based browsers are having issues with Windows 10 newer Insider builds. So I think you should wait for next build or report to Opera.

Reducing Chromium’s memory use for faster hardware performance

But, slow networks aren’t the only bottleneck you face — hardware performance matters, too. The majority of the world’s users aren’t on $1500 high-powered laptops; many people, in businesses, schools, libraries, universities and homes across the world are using older machines with less memory, older processors and slower disk drives.

So, since the release of Opera 15, our first Chromium-based browser, Opera’s engineers have been partnering with our Google counterparts to improve the performance of the rendering engine Blink. We’ve leveraged our expertise from our 15 years making our old Presto engine work well on old machines, and you can read lots of nerdy details on the mechanics of what we’ve done in our developer blog post, Opera’s work to reduce Chromium’s memory use.

Collaborating with other teams for a better web

We’ve also been contributing heavily to other ways of improving the web; for example, Blink/ Chromium’s way of showing multicolumn layouts was written by Morten from our R&D Department. Rune from R&D has done lots of work on improving the performance of styling pages so that they render faster. Sigbjørn has played a central role in the soon-shipping Oilpan project to improve how Blink / Chromium cleans up memory (therefore using it more efficiently). We’re also active in Blink Chromium’s Security and Memory teams.

By collaborating with other companies on our shared code base, implementing our own user interface and features on top of that, and iterating rapidly, we’re keeping you on the fastest, most secure browser we can build, while helping to make the web better for everyone.

Opera 35 Development Begins:

  • Simple settings section – so that the most common settings are all together on one page,
  • Further downloads improvements – Opera should ask you if you really want to close it and stop currently ongoing download
  • Sync – annoying duplicates creation should finally be solved in this cycle
  • Easier way to turn bookmarks bar on/off. Currently this setting is so hidden that many users complain we don’t have bookmarks bar at all,
  • Something we internally call “Mute me baby” – a way to easier kill annoying sound from the browser
  • Addressbar on-click UI suggestions – add a way to display only speed dials there,
  • And last but not least – move News to Speed Dial – place News below the SD tiles. This is initial version, there are UI glitches and lack of your own sources addition. You can expect more enhancements to come.

Opera developer 35.0.2064.0 update

This release is more an improvement-laden one. So, along with a few usability and stability fixes, it delivers:

Mute tab improvements

Added “Mute other tabs” and fixed the lack of context menu on pinned tab with media (thanks xirit64!).

Simple settings improvements

As per users’ amassed negative feedback, we have removed the ad-blocking section from the “Basic” settings.

Windows 10 improvements

This is another iteration of the frame color awareness feature on Windows 10. Now:
– the window frame got improved contrast;
– control menu items look better on active and hover;
– you can control the window frame look via the Personalization system controls;
– the changes are visible on all Windows 10 versions, not only Threshold 2.

Win10 new frame

Initial Opera 36 developer release

  • Speed Dial – Soon you should be able to see a refreshed, more elegant and easier-to-use solution. You can already find a flag (opera://flags/?search=navi#web-ui-navigation-sidepanel) to put the navigation bar to the left side. Enhanced design and on/off switches for components are also on the way. That ugly, white-blinking effect when switching to bookmarks manager is known, and we are working on a fix now.
  • News – This feature should be personalized, super fast to use and customizable. Our work here is continuation of a longer process devoted to enhancements. For the next version, we’re also looking  into supporting RSS feeds via News.
  • Simple, yet powerful UI – On the one hand, we want to simplify the UI, removing, for example, the sync button from the top UI. But, on the other hand, we’d like  to give you more tools and options to adjust your browser according to your preferences. What would you like to see?
  • More extensions on the toolbar – The long-awaited expander should be delivered in this cycle, which is important for those of you who use a lot of extensions.
  • Windows 10 UI improvements – This is something you have already seen in O35 cycle that should now be finalized and delivered to the stable version.
  • Synchronization engine improvements – These should mean you get fewer l server-connection kickouts, improving reliability of the service.
  • A few more stealth projects – More will be revealed about these later.

    • Ladybird Browser is no longer accepting outside contributions thanks to AI by David Uzondu The Ladybird Browser Project has announced it will no longer accept public pull requests and will limit changes to those made by its maintainers as it works towards its first alpha release. According to Ladybird's creator Andreas Kling, this is "not a change we make lightly," but the rapid shift in AI capabilities forced their hand. Previously, a massive PR implied that the person behind it put a lot of care into the code and is ready to "answer for the consequences." Now with AI, anyone can generate a PR without even understanding the bug fix or feature they want merged. The blog post goes on to say that the team is closing all open public pull requests immediately, and that maintainers will not treat external forks as a review queue for upstream Ladybird. Instead, the team wants outside contributors to focus on reporting bugs and running tests. Kling started Ladybird back in 2019 as LibHTML, a simple HTML viewer for his hobby operating system, SerenityOS, but by September 2022, it had turned into a full-fledged browser project. What sets Ladybird apart from the likes of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox is its totally independent engine, which does not rely on pre-existing codebases. The project maintains a strict policy against default search engine deals or user data monetization, keeping development funded entirely by donations and sponsorships. Generative AI is forcing open source project maintainers to rethink how they handle public code contributions (and the whole open-source thing in general). One month ago, a leak about the National Health Service (NHS) suggested the organization was planning to take all of its public repositories private ahead of a May 11 deadline, thanks to Mythos (an AI model that Anthropic believes is too dangerous to be released to the public) and its ability to find and write exploits for zero-day vulnerabilities. Thankfully, the Government Digital Service (GDS) issued a counter-report titled "AI, open code and vulnerability risk in the public sector" that stopped the shutdown by pointing out that hiding code does not improve security.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
