AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems.

I had one time where things were kind of hanging but other than that, it seems the same or quicker. Gaming seems (no numbers) a bit quicker.

Intalled, but don't see any difference. I actually think my system is a bit slower and hangs on certain things now.

Installed this AMD Dual Core Optimizer and my computer would crash on boot with a BSOD DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I had to boot into safe mode, but still couldn't uninstall the drivers through Add/Remove Program or by running the TscSync setup.exe again, since it wouldn't run Windows Installer service during Safe boot, and therefore I couldn't uninstall.

For future reference to people with a similar problem, I eventually managed to remove it by going to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Expand on 'System Devices' > Right click 'AMD Special Tools Driver' and then click Uninstall. I could then boot back into Windows normally, and removed it completely through Add/Remove programs again.

It adds this switch to the end of your boot.ini

/usepmtimer

So your boot.ini should look somewhat like this:

[boot loader]

timeout=30

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /usepmtimer

Edit: And to go off on a rant, what is with this sloppy hardcoded c: crap? First the Alexander mod for RTW and now this from AMD, the new 1.3.2 drivers from AMD flat out refuse to install if windows is not on C:, just totally sloppy.

I had exactly the same problem but got round it by booting into safe mode, running msconfig and removing it from startup, then once I could boot up OK i uninstalled it

i dont seem to have had any problems but i have a sneaky feeling i disabled it at start up...i had just done a fresh installation of windows so i have a feeling i used msconfig to disable alot of stuff just after installing it and chances are i stopped it...will have to have a look 2nite...i must say on my g15 performance monitor it did seem that both cores were being used as much as each other rather then the one taking most of the straign but i cant remember if it was always like that in fear or not

I believe AMD's 'optimizer' is causing hangs on me comp. I don't know of anything else that would be doing it, except maybe the new AMD processor driver (v1.3.2) that I also installed. Hmpf. I do notice that the CPU usage is showing (task manager) as being evenly distibuted between my two cores now, which is excellent.
