Tour de France winner Landis tests positive

Recommended Posts

I just found it funny that he almost collapsed on the last climb in stage 16 which dropped him more than 8 minutes back. Then the next stage he suddenly blew everyone away and closed to less than 30 seconds from the leader. I hope it isn't true, but if it is, he deservs to have the title stripped.

Edit: Also, the title is misleading, he is still champion as of right now.

They said that the doping would not have been the cause for his comeback. On the report I was watching on TV, they explained how doctors said it would take weeks for the effects to be noticeable, not hours.

Interesting article about the tests:

Tour De France champion Floyd Landis' results on a urine test that spots elevated levels of performance-enhancing testosterone are a mystery and "don't add up," a leading doping expert said Thursday.

Landis' team revealed Thursday that his urine sample last week showed "an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone."

Testosterone creams, pills and injections can build muscle and strength and improve recovery time after exertion when used over a period of several weeks, according to Dr. Gary Wadler, a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency and a spokesman for the American College of Sports Medicine.

But if Landis had been a user, earlier urine tests during the Tour would have been affected, too, Wadler said. Landis' first reported abnormal result was last Thursday, after his amazing come-from-behind performance in stage 17 of the race.

One-time use of steroids could result in an abnormal test, but it would have no effect on performance and could not account for Landis' astounding feat Thursday, "so something's missing here," Wadler said. "It just doesn't add up."

Yeah his testosterone wasn't high it was the ratio to the epitestosterone, they said that could be off possibly due to the fact that he had cortisone shots in his hip or the fact that he kicked back a few the night before. If the B test comes out positive then you can point a finger and say he cheated.

Men, he took drugs....thats has been proved.

Few months ago a french laboratory did some tests with previous blood samples (they keep for future inspection, as you might know) and they identified syntetic hormones.

Of course this affair was covered, nobody wants to blur the Armstrong's almight career.

(ill not discuss this, i simply dont care....if you want more information, go get it)

Btw, pratically ALL top ciclists take drugs.

Its a well known fact.

The problem is that the identification methods are always few years behind the new products creation.

yeah, like thats a trustworthy source. lance was constantly tested, suprised all the time, for 7 years straight or whatever. if he was guilty, they would have caught him.

too bad about this landis guy though, but did anybody really care about this years TDF anyways?

What, you mean this French laboratory?

The report, commissioned late last year by the International Cycling Union, cleared the record seven-time Tour de France champion of allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs during his first win in 1999.

It said tests on urine samples were conducted improperly and fell so short of scientific standards that it was "completely irresponsible" to suggest they "constitute evidence of anything."

The investigation also concluded that the French laboratory that handled the samples and the World Anti-Doping Agency "violated applicable rules on athlete confidentiality by commenting publicly on the alleged positive findings."

The report recommended convening a tribunal to discuss possible legal and ethical violations by WADA, which is headed by Dick Pound, and to consider "appropriate sanctions to remedy the violations."

    • Windows 95 offered the ability to add and edit the right click menus, on a per file type basis. This feature seems to be missing in the new file explorer. Are they bringing it back as a "new" feature?
    • It's nearly time to replace my aging Founders Edition 3080, it doesn't OC as nicely as it used to and it's running around 10c warmer than it did when I first bought it.  I don't have budget for much more than what I spent on the 3080 and locally, that means the best GPU I can manage is a 9070XT. On this basis I have a few questions: 1. At present I don't use ray tracing, if this was to change, would this GPU be an issue? 2. How does it compare on a performance basis? 3. Are the drivers worse or better than those for nVidia? 4. Linux support, is it there? 5. Anything else I should be aware of if I were to make this change? 6. Is it a good idea or shall I try and keep the 3080 a little longer.
    • What OS is that? It looks a bit like Mac OS but the command line suggests it isn't, either way I like it!
    • Outlook classic is inherently better than new outlook, for a number of reasons. That said, if the only reason people need office is to read email, they should just use thunderbird.
