RIAA Sues LimeWire Over Piracy

Recommended Posts

Why go after Limewire. Why not bring downthe gnutella network.... wouldn't that be the smart thing to do?

Smart? Yes but they'd make less money out of these lawsuits if successful and that's not smart for RIAA. As I said, it's a business model to sue anyone you can. Everybody seems to do it, RIAA, MPAA, SCO, whoever.

If they truly cared about the artists and that is if the artists themselves started to care (not all of them do you know), RIAA would attack smarter sources than say Limewire or an individual who's deaf.

I have to admit I use Limewire for single tracks but only to see what they are like before I get the album...its a bit mad :s

I'll say I do the exact same. Why? Simple, why should I spend my $15 - $20 dollars on something that perhaps has 1, 2 maybe three good singles and 12 **** songs?

I downloaded the latest Disturbed album, 10,000 Fists - I loved it sooo much I went out bought it and they were so good I downloaded The Sickness, loved that too and bought their first album as well and their second. Oh yes 2 cd's downloaded a total of 26 tracks

26 * 150,000 = $3,900,000 yea for lets see about $30 dollars for two cd's!!!! Which I would NOT have bought otherwise if it were not for 'evil piracy'!!!

And guess what. If I don't like the music I delete it. Why waste hd space and space on my ipod for songs I dont like? If there is one or two good songs on the cd.... I simply buy them on iTunes. Problem solved they get money only for what I think is good, which is incentive to make stuff thats good and I dont pay for crap music thats just filler. :)

And yes there are a few mp3's I have that I simply cannot get anywhere except p2p. Cant buy an old very rare album at a store cant even order it its not produced anymore. Not on iTunes or anywhere else. Where else do I get it???? huh???

Extra, extra, RIAA sues Al Gore for creating the internet, a tool used to spread piracy.

UPDATE: RIAA sues RIAA for using said internet. RIAA claims unauthorized users accessed their wireless connection. RIAA drops case. RIAA sues RIAA for emotional damage.

So you want them so sue MS? I mean, WMP does rip music. Of course, ripping is a great way to get music onto your computer.

You also think that you can't get caught on torrents? It's not that hard. If you seed to anyone, they should be able to see your IP address. Find that out and use an IP locator to find the exact location of the computer. I think I could do that...

yes i do torrents are no safer... but, cd ripping stuff is the main root tbh.. but, i wouldn't want to see anyone like MS to get sued mind ya... bc I gotta rip alot of my music from cds to put back on this new HDD :(

Not suprising to say the least. Limewire was a decent program but with programs like Freewire and Cabos, it was loosing ground.

I don't condone piracy, but I personally refuse to pay $20 for a song or two that I like. The sad thing is that most new CDs only contain one or two good songs and the rest are filler crap. If CDs actually had good music on them and they weren't ridiculously overpriced, I just might consider buying them again, but I doubt that will be happening any time soon. That's why I like services that let you buy single MP3s but with the DRM crap floating around, even that I stay away from.

I heard that the amount of junk files were really bad on there; but RIAA might close them, and then people look for another source, they find one that's a little underused and then it becomes popular; repeat cycle.

That's what happened to Kazaa. Kazaa was the number 1 back in the day and now it's Limewire... who's next?

Gnutella is decentralized, there are no servers to bring down.

You could try going for dedicated hubs.

    • Doing this type of stuff has pushed me away from using Edge even if I otherwise would've because it tells me Microsoft themselves don't trust the value provided to stand on its own. If Microsoft truly believed in the superiority of their offering, they wouldn't feel pressured to rely on cheap gimmicks and lock-ins to get people to use it. The more companies do this type of stuff, including making it difficult to cancel, the less I feel inclined to use their product because if they can't rely on the product itself for their needs, I shouldn't either.

    • All good features. But it is not an actual Windows app. I’d rather use the PWA. Meanwhile but versions - Classic and Modern - are full of bugs and inconsistencies. Yuck.
