Cannot see usb drive

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with seeing my usb drive: it was working fine but now:

- I cannot see drive in My Computer and cannot access to it through Run: "J:" nor any dialogs (like save/load a file)

- I see drive in drivers managment, however changing it's letter does not help

- Tweak UI shows drive as "visible"

- I can access it via cmd (J:), also I manage to open drive explorer window by running cmd command: start J: <- only way to open drive's explorer (and explorer address field show proper path)

- Total Commander see's the drive

- Drive works 100% normal on other pc's

so I would vote for "something stuck my explorer, especially "My Computer" - but how to unlock that ?

anyone knows hwo to fix that ?

yah i'm having about the same problem as u, for me, it's a external exclosure with a seagate 200gig IDE harddrive, it works totally fine on 1 computer, it does not work on the other, and i tried it on my friends computer doesn't work either, by doesn't work i mean, the drive is deteced and shown with correct model name in device manager and in bios, but window partition does not show....my friend with exact same enclosure ( he saw i got one and he got it 1 week later)...doesnt have this problem whatsover, his works fine on all computer we tried...so i don't know...i'm really ****ed now..'cuase i get this external enclosure that only works on 1 computer ><

I have the same exact problem with my 128 mb thumb drive. I know the usb ports work, i have my keyboard and mouse, and my new zen sleek photo working with them. I've tried everything except formatting, and that isnt happening. If anyone finds the problem that would be great.

I also have a similar problem when connecting a old laptop drive in a usb enclosure. The computer accepts that it is there under the hardware settings ( shows up under hard disks) but wont show up anywhere else so unable to access it.

In my case it has a old operating system on it, no idea if it works or not though. Someone told me that you cant have more than 2 IDE hardrives on your puter at once.... but as this is connected by a usb lead, i would have thought it would have seen this as a usb mass storage device?

Not the answer you were looking for but thought i would add my findings!

Hi everybody,

I'm new in this forum, I know the topic mybe has expired, but I hope my information still able to help someone there.

Like all of You, I also facing the same problem with my usb drive.

After a painfull search of solution(including this forum) I finally found some great solution.

It seems that the problrm occured after I install daemon tool 4.03 which automatically install secdrv.sys, sptd.sys ans sptdXXXX.sys (XXX is a number) to c:\windows\system32\drivers.

So what I do is just delete these three files, and reboot system, and then

HORRRRAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY..............my usb drive works just fine again.

Hope this can help

:D

Thanks for posting up, MyCelcius. That helped me, and I'm sure it helped others who may not think it's worth their time to say thanks. So, Thank you, again!

    • Since they open sourced the calculator in Win 10/11 it is much better and can do a lot, I love it.
    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. Btw, I note on askwoody that Woody Leonhard passed away March, 2025 aged 73. His site was one of my favorites back in the day. Belated yes but RIP Woody.
    • Because of the EU (a good thing) newer android devices been getting 5 years worth of security patches. Except some Motorola which found the loop hole, and offer ZERO updates. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
