I've been upgrading since Beta 2, so this is not a fresh install.

You're not a good beta tester, because a fresh installation is highly recommended when you test a new build. If you do a simple upgrade you wrong because you may still have the old bugs/inconsistencies leaved by the previous builds.

through his father who knows someone that knows someone that works for microsoft.

just kidding. looking at this guys post history it seems he works for microsoft himself.

MS oesn't have an Office in Brisbane.... yet

Is it stable/fast enough to be considered a RC1?

RC1 doesn't mean it's final! RC1 is just another development step, and this is just a new build, but Microsoft will release a lot of RC1 builds before final release. Anyway if you tried the public beta2, you'll notice a huge performance improvements in new public RC1

Thanks dude, you rock!, not. Actually I have two machines for testing, one that I upgrade and another that I do a fresh install on.

Microsoft does have an office in Brisbane.

I've added some more photos to my initial post. Just kicking off an install to my other machine to test out Media Centre.

Heres a question:

If microsoft did updated the add font box, how do you see it looking like?

  • keep it the same look, just update the folder icons
  • scrap the entire dialog box and re do it from scratch
  • or something else.....

what are some of your opinions on this?

How about redoing it with a new small preview bar showing live previews as you select them there? :)

Sure, previews are elsewhere, but it would be convenient.

I would like to know too?! Dead tired of 5472.5. :ermm:

:D Thankyou!

Well I've heard August 15th for awhile now. So I was thinking it will be sometime today.

@ Franzon

I'm not a good beta tester because I upgrade? That's irrational. I've upgraded my last installation, as they requested feedback on the upgrade functionality. It's a listed scenario

Actually, he has done nothing wrong.

depending on the build, microsoft asks you to upgrade from different OS (ie. XP, Vista Home, Vista Premium, etc). This would obviously help to test out the upgrade process.

It is usually detailed on the documentation that MS releases (with the build) to testers on what they want testers to focus on for that particular build.

5520 is the most recent build at the moment.

While I'm not at liberty to divulge the full contents of the message, Microsoft has placed build 5520 into escrow as the RC1 release of Windows Vista. This build will be released to testers and the public after the Labor Day holiday in the US, which falls on Monday, September 4th. Currently, Microsoft expects to ship RC1 on or after September 7.

Hey thanks for the extra screenshots, they look great; I have a question for you though; in the screenshot below it looks like the mini media player in the task bar by the system tray is detachable or in fact detached from the task bar, Am I right? I know you can detach the media player from the task bar but then it immediately goes into full mode, your screenshot makes it look as if it was not fully attached to the task bar in fact you can see task bar is like broken in two behind the mini player.

What you are seeing is most likely Microsoft not finishing the drawing of the taskbar behind the toolbar... Even in XP you have to draw your own background when you create a task band. They default to the window color scheme, and would need custom drawing to look like they are sitting in a themed taskbar.

It's a result of a bug. There are a couple of bugs in this build in the taskbar including screen flashing around the Start Menu and Media Player not drawing correctly when minimised to the taskbar.

    • This Dell 27 inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor is really cheap after a very long time by Sayan Sen Recently we covered a really good deal on an AMD RX 9070 three-fan model that's available at slightly above its MSRP. If you are looking for a GPU for 1440p gaming that's around the performance of the Nvidia RTX 5070 you should most definitely check it out. Let's say that you are looking for a monitor to pair that up with too. The Samsung 49" G9 curved QD-OLED superultrawide is a good option that can provide an immersive experience. However despite being a very good deal currently (at $855), it may seem unaffordable to you, or you may simply not want to spend as much on a monitor. In that case Dell's S2725QS can be a very good option as it's on sale at the moment for its lowest price in over six months (purchase link under the specs table down below). The big highlight of the Dell S2725QS is its 27-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 (4K UHD) resolution, offering a high pixel density that can make text appear sharper while also providing plenty of screen space for productivity and media consumption. The display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz through both HDMI and DisplayPort, making it suitable not only for everyday desktop use but also for smoother gaming and scrolling. AMD FreeSync Premium support is included as well, helping reduce screen tearing during gaming sessions. The screen has fairly good brightness and color accuracy so you can use it for general work purpose, though photo/video editing is probably not going to be the best match for this. The technical specs of the Dell S2725QS are given in the table below: Specification Value Viewable Screen Size 27 in (68.58 cm) Screen Mode 4K UHD Maximum Resolution 3840 × 2160 Maximum Preset Resolution 3840 × 2160 @ 120 Hz Standard Refresh Rate 120 Hz Panel Technology In-plane Switching (IPS) Backlight Technology LED Edgelight System Pixel Density 163 PPI Response Time 8 ms GTG, 5 ms GTG, 4 ms GTG Horizontal Viewing Angle 178° Vertical Viewing Angle 178° Brightness 350 cd/m² (nits) Native Contrast Ratio 1500:1 Color Support 1.07 Billion Colors Color Gamut 99% sRGB (CIE 1931) Adaptive Sync AMD FreeSync Premium HDCP Support Yes Mount Type Panel Mount VESA Mount 100 × 100 mm Maximum Height Adjustment 13 cm Tilt -5° to 21° Swivel -30° to 30° Pivot ±90° Stand Adjustments Tilt, Swivel, Height, Pivot Glass Hardness 3H Horizontal Frequency 27–270 kHz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Vertical Frequency 48–120 Hz (DisplayPort 1.4 / HDMI 2.1) Video Inputs 2 × HDMI 2.1 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3), 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (HDCP 1.4 & 2.3) Operating Temperature 0°C to 40°C Storage Temperature -20°C to 60°C Operating Humidity 10%–80% (Non-condensing) Storage Humidity 5%–95% (Non-condensing) Get it at the link below: Dell S2725QS 27-inch 4K 120Hz IPS monitor: $218.49 (Sold and Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $280) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
