Hmmm, I don't know what to tell you then. You certainly can run the game, of course you won't be on max, but that isn't a problem. Hmmm, have you tried any tweaked driver?

Also not just for you, but for others having the "can't start" issue, have you disabled Alcohol 120 or Dameon Tools by any chance? (If you have it installed of course) The virtual drives may be causing issues. Also, are any of you running any kind of refresh rate forcing app or reg hack? Mioght want to disable that as well.

I can't think of anything else offhand :|

Is multi-player all about killing other players?

What is fun part of the game?

Yes, multiplayer is usually about killing other players. But in FEAR (and other games) there are other gametypes that don't specifically involve killing others, though that's what always happens.

Anyone else noticed the status text size takes up most of the screen now? :/

Yes, it's a bug. I'm sure it will be fixed soon, or you can fix it yourself once we find out how :)

I know for a fact that some people can run it with tools like daemon tools

I killed all none essential services via task manager and now I don't get an error.. I get nothing at all, doesn't work of course, double clicking the icon and nothing happens yet other games work fine this way as well.

WTF is up with the MOD 3 ROCKET launcher ! just had my ass handed to me never seen it before in 100 + matches

There are several weapons that are "hidden" throughout some of the maps such as the rocket launcher and a really big honkin canon thing. Yeah, don't get hit with that one.

Nice game, although there's no 1280x1024 resolution to choose from in the options. That's really lame, does anybody know any workaround to this? :pinch:

Set your options in-game, then Quit and go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR

Open settings.cfg, change the values and save. Change the file properties to Read Only.

Keep in mind the aspect ratio will be weird (e.g. in the loading screen)

Thanks, it worked! :woot:

For those of you who are getting errors on launch, or the game won't start up, we need more information than "it won't start up" :)

List your PC specs, what drivers you are using, etc.

My specs are in my sig. I'm running on ForceWare 91.31 and this is the error.

I played the demo and borrowed a friend's full version back when it first came out and it was VERY smooth and now that I play this combat crap its slow as cold molasses even with the settings turned down, heres a tip too don't use the BUSTED automatic settings thing it'll set all the gfx options way too high. Also when I go to start it up I always get this BS message about my system time is wrong and needs to be athuenticated??? WTF! BULLS**T!

Ah my specs

p4 2.4

1 gig ram

Geeforce 6600gt

Why is it a pile of crap? They are still selling the full retail game, the multiplayer still requires punkbuster and auth servers, and it is their right to protect their game with protection. Or because it's free, that makes it not ok? :|

No i mean the stupid restrictive SecuROM copy protection, i like my virtual drives it means i can make images of my games and just select the image i want to mount rather than having to swap and change my cds.

Its a damn FREE mp game, why on earth they feel the need to protect it up to the eyeballs so it restricts people from playing it i dont know.

    • LibreWolf 151.0.3-1 by Razvan Serea LibreWolf is an independent “fork” of Firefox, with the primary goals of privacy security and user freedom. It is the community run successor to LibreFox. LibreWolf is designed to increase protection against tracking and fingerprinting techniques, while also including a few security improvements. This is achieved through our privacy and security oriented settings and patches. LibreWolf also aims to remove all the telemetry, data collection and annoyances, as well as disabling anti-freedom features like DRM. LibreWolf features: Latest Firefox — LibreWolf is compiled directly from the latest build of Firefox Stable. You will have the the latest features, and security updates. Independent Build — LibreWolf uses a build independent of Firefox and has its own settings, profile folder and installation path. As a result, it can be installed alongside Firefox or any other browser. No phoning home — Embedded server links and other calling home functions are removed. In other words, minimal background connections by default. User settings updates Extensions firewall: limit internet access for extensions. Multi-platform (Windows/Linux/Mac/and soon Android) Community-Driven Dark theme (classic and advanced) LibreWolf privacy features: Delete cookies and website data on close. Include only privacy respecting search engines like DuckDuckGo and Searx. Include uBlockOrigin with custom default filter lists, and Tracking Protection in strict mode, to block trackers and ads. Strip tracking elements from URLs, both natively and through uBO. Enable dFPI, also known as Total Cookie Protection. Enable RFP which is part of the Tor Uplift project. RFP is considered the best in class anti-fingerprinting solution, and its goal is to make users look the same and cover as many metrics as possible, in an effort to block fingerprinting techniques. Always display user language as en-US to websites, in order to protect the language used in the browser and in the OS. Disable WebGL, as it is a strong fingerprinting vector. Prevent access to the location services of the OS, and use Mozilla's location API instead of Google's API. Limit ICE candidates generation to a single interface when sharing video or audio during a videoconference. Force DNS and WebRTC inside the proxy, when one is being used. Trim cross-origin referrers, so that they don't include the full URI. Disable link prefetching and speculative connections. Disable disk cache and clear temporary files on close. Disable form autofill. Disable search and form history...and more. • Gf needed a new Surface and was looking at a Surface Laptop because of the Snapdragon. Seeing as it was a two year old chip she just decided to get a Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 instead. Personally this Surface Ultra Cassis reminds me a bit of Razor. It would be interesting if it could handle proper gaming and be 17 inch.
    • No idea, frankly, I'm not into minimum requirements gaming, but it would be an interesting test to find out. Also, I just have to point out that it wasn't my intention to downplay the performance of DXVK on Linux or Linux gaming in general (despite my own experience being a bit of a mixed bag). I just thought it would be good to point out that DXVK is not Linux exclusive and that you can benefit from using it even in Windows.
