Lost - Season Three

Hanging by a thread?

Last I checked LOST was still doing pretty well in terms of ratings.

While 'hanging by a thread' is a bit of an exaggeration, Lost has suffered this season in the ratings. Lost isn't giving the answers viewers want and they're leaving for other shows that come on at the same time. Criminal Minds (CBS) has been gaining on Lost ever since the season premier and I suspect that it will only continue to get worse if the writers don't start giving more answers.

For example, in the last episode, 'I Do,' why did they even show the 5 minutes of Locke, Sayid and the others if they weren't going to explain what the hell was going on. Why even show us that? Why spend so much time on Kate & Sawyer getting it on? Why did they show Sawyer last season taking over the guns and calling himself "the new sheriff" and never revisit that? Lost is becoming way to complicated with way to many main characters for the writers to deal with in my opinion.

Now that doesn't mean I've lost faith in the show, but I can certainly understand why others are feeling let down by the show.

[EDIT] According to Nielson ratings for the week of October 30, ending November 5, Lost averaged 16.1 million viewers while Criminal Minds (same time slot) averaged 17.0 million viewers. Now that may not sound like a big difference, but compare it to last year (week of November 7-13, 2005) Lost averaged 19.97 million while Criminal Minds brought in 15.05 million.

Why did they show Sawyer last season taking over the guns and calling himself "the new sheriff" and never revisit that?

heh. We could have a long discussion about the inconcludes (dunno if this word properly spelled) in this show... How about the numbers?. We spend a year of our lifes watching this people typing those numbers and till now, nothing. Oh, I see, an explain might happend. Sure. I bet that.

How about the Michael 'subliminal' messages (like at the very end of the Hurley flashback)

and a long etc.

why don't you guys just enjoy the show?

you don't have to know all the answers immediately, let TPTB choose the right time

Because it seems like they're just waisting time with all these flashbacks. Sure it was interesting to see that Kate has been married, but what the hell does that have to do with the island? At least Locke's flashbacks usually give us some insight as to why he acts the way he does on the island, and of course there's his wheelchair story that we've been waiting for answers for 2 seasons. The list of questions that need quicker answers is almost never ending with Lost, it is just getting very tiresome.

It seems to me that they're just dragging this show out to make another season of it so they can get more money. They're going to loose a lot of audience by doing that... In my opinion, Season Two was a complete waist of time. As ThePitt mentioned, Season Two was all about pushing the buttons. On top of that we learned a little more about the Others, but not a lot. Season Two was like a really long boring sequel to a smash hit movie.

yea they know its a big hit, if they move too fast with the answers they will run out of idea's. They are on an island and alot of the normal scenarios have been played out and all characters have now had at least one flashback (not including the new characters)

maybe you need faith =P
What's funny is that Locke represents how I feel about the show. At least a little confused, like "what's going on" and then I have a lot interest invested in the show and then I kind of go "why" to a lot of things and right now I'm back with my faith.

All I'm saying is a little more answers would be nice. They're introducing more questions than answers and they need a better equilibrium of questions and answers.

Some SPOILERs below from Buddy TV. BEWARE!

LOST Episode 3x07: Not in Portland

Obviously, the follow-up to "I Do's" cliff hanger, this episode will reveal whether or not Jack, Kate and Sawyer make it off the island! The Episode is Juliet centric, telling her story from back in the really-real world. The episode also Guest stars William Mapother as Ethan. The rumored plot goes something like this: While Sawyer and Kate run through the jungle, Juliet convinces Jack that his plan will not work; Kate and Sawyer will surely be caught before they find a way off the island and the others vying for Ben's death will quickly gain control. If it is escape he wants, he will need to go with her. Kate and Sawyer are rescued by Danielle's daughter, Alex. Jack thinks he is being taken to Kate and Sawyer who are waiting on a boat, in the end of the episode we learn that Ethan was Juliet's husband and her plot to kill Ben was a rouse all along as she shoots... well, I'm not going there, but suffice to say she has revenge on her mind.

LOST Episode 3x08: Untitled

Currently it's being billed as a Desmond episode, we've got info this is in fact a Jack episode. Real time island stuff includes the tailie children making an appearance in a sub-plot involving Locke and Sayid. They come very close to other's village. Jack's flashback reveals his "dark" time spent in Thailand and a mysterious encounter with a prostitute (!)

LOST Episode 3x09: Untitled

Desmond centric. Said to be the most surreal of all flash-backs. The description was that you have normal flashback stories being told as they always have, but they suddenly fracture into David Lynch-ish little episodes of symbolism.

---------------------

If 3x07 happens to be true, BLAH. It's a good twist, but it's not like we didn't expect Juliette to be "evil" like that. And they could've kept it, if there's still 12 weeks until the episode airs. Anyway... I guess Juliette hates the losties because they killed Ethan off, and hates Ben because he sent him with the losties. I guess Ben dies.

thanks for that preview :D

No probs, not much to see.

Reckon that is episode 8 and Charlie called Des a coward must refer back to Des flashbacks at the end of season 2 when Charles Widmore called him a coward

I think we will pass the americans, it doesnt start till feb and they are only up to episode 6. We will be on about episode 10 unless they stagger it over the next 2 months and end up catching up to the americans which is probably likely, i dont think they will let Sky air the episodes before they are on american telly.

So does anyone know if us BRITS are going to take over you YANKS with Season 3?

Seeing as we have episode 2 this weekend, and us BRITS don't have breaks in schedules usually :)

There's no way ABC would let Sky air one of their most prized series ahead of them, they want the viewing figures for one thing

I believe Sky One is going to air the episodes alongside the next batch on the season. So i assume there will be a break for us UKers

Gutted if they do that :(

I hate the breaks in schedules the yanks have!

    • A difficult position to be in. Either they cater to us users or they cater to news curators to potentially increase traffic. Personally, I wasn't being sarcastic. Hosting a website isn't free, so without traffic this site stops existing, and if you want traffic you have to play the game. I legitimately thought the title was good. Not because I like it, but because it's the kind of title people will click on. This site needs that.
