Lost - Season Three

Recommended Posts

That was a fantastic episode, loved every minute of it.

It occurred to me when Ben mentioned the box, didn't Walt say something about a box in season 1. Telling Locke not to open it or was that the hatch? I swear box has been mentioned before.

Good catch! Does anyone remember which episode that was? I need to watch that scene again.

Pretty much Pallab that answers your question :)

Thanks,

this show is really starting to disappoint me. I feel like

they're pulling farfetchd plot twists out of their ass

, just to extend the series. since ratings are down, what might end up happening is that corporate sponsors and ABC are going to force the writers to end the series in like 1/2 season.

What are you talking about? This is vintage Lost. Is it more far fetched than that Locke dream which lead him to the place in season 1?

Lost is always been like this. So dont know, how come you have started disliking it just now. You should have disliked it from the very beginning.

Thanks for that, he never said box, just "Don't open it, don't open the thing" which i think he meant the hatch

OK, Walt didn't mention any thing about the box. But crazy Lenny did.

Season 1, Episode 18, "Numbers"

Right after Hurley told Lenny about him using the numbers to play the Lotto, Lenny said "You shouldn't have done that. You've opened the box."

Thats it!! I knew i heard that before! Thanks. Box related to the numbers then?

My thought was that Lenny was referring to Pandora's box.

Anyway, awesome episode! It's good to have Lost back. I was only mildly enjoying Lost until the last few episodes and I was scared I was going to lose interest by the end of the season. It's even better since the other shows I watch are on break. I don't really miss them as much with Lost coming through like this.

i also think that Locke's dad is the smoke monster and not the actual person. but i think they tried putting some doubt into it when the police woman said something like "he could be anywhere" when talking about his dads escape. hopefully they explain how the smoke monster works and how it can read people's minds.

also has it been accepted that

Locke's dad is the original Sawyer?

or am i wrong?

The sub isn't the only way off the island, assuming Walt and Michael got off (unsafe assumption?).. But it does seem to be the only way to reach the island that we know of...

Daniel

How did Danielle(The french lady) get there then?

Wasnt she on some kind of biologist ship? :s

Its so obviously the smoke monster / island spirit.

The same thing that was eko's brother. As Ben said its a room where anything you want can be created, it just takes the form and uses the persons memory to act/sound/look like them.

Well it is interesting that the others have control over it.

Well it is interesting that the others have control over it.

That would be very interesting, how would someone control it? If Locke is a good person, why did the smoke monster try to take him at the end of season 1?

You mean when he stared at it?

Well we don't know what happened, maybe Locke wasn't part of its mission.

What I really want to know is how the others managed to make the whisper sounds? Or perhaps they used the spirit/monster to do it to freak them out from exploring.

Also, I think the polar bear is the spirit/monster, unless they go with the magnetic forces being screwed up on the island so one somehow got there.

    • Google Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer is leaving for OpenAI by Pradeep Viswanathan Noam Shazeer is best known as one of the co-authors of the 2017 “Attention Is All You Need” paper, which introduced the Transformer architecture that now powers most large language models. He also worked on several major Google AI projects, including LaMDA, before leaving the company in 2021 to co-found Character.AI. He also authored the Sparsely-gated Mixture of Experts (2016) paper, which is popular among the AI community. After falling behind OpenAI and Anthropic a couple of years ago, Google brought Shazeer back in 2024 as part of a major deal with Character.AI. Through this deal, along with Noam, several other researchers returned to Google DeepMind. More recently, he was a vice president of engineering at Google and a technical co-lead for Gemini. Today, Noam Shazeer announced on X that he is leaving Google and joining OpenAI. In his post, Shazeer said it was a difficult decision to move on, adding that he was proud of the Google team and what it had built together. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman welcomed the move with a post of his own, saying Shazeer was one of the people he had most wanted to work with since OpenAI’s early days. Google has made strong progress with Gemini over the past year, closing the gap with OpenAI in several areas. But losing Noam Shazeer is a major talent setback for them, especially after bringing him back less than two years ago by spending a fortune. For OpenAI, the hire adds one of the industry’s most experienced language model researchers to a team that is already pushing ahead with ChatGPT, Codex, and its next generation of frontier models.
