Quick Shot
So i find out now that beta 2 for wmp 11 came out so i downloaded it. Went through the first screen (validation) accepted the terms and conditions and then i got this really stupid error screen that doesn't explain anything does anyone have any ideas? I am connected to the internet. Yes I have a firewall. To be sure that it wasn't the problem i turned it off for a while but i still got the same error. Preppy Veteran Posted September 1, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 1, 2006 Can IE / WMP-old-version connect to the Internet normally? That's required for this beta install, since it has to dynamically download one component. Preppy Veteran Posted September 1, 2006 Veteran Share Posted September 1, 2006 ^-- That's not a valid install method and should be avoided if at all humanly possible. The WMP11 install is a 6-step process (plus migration and other services provided by setup_wm.exe). If you choose the extract method, you will not have a valid install, and will have serious problems with devices, Media Center, Media Center Extender, and the Network Sharing Service. Please don't suggest that bad advice at this time. I respect where it's coming from, but since I'm the guy who wrote most of the installer...... it'd be tons better to deal with your actual problem than have people try to brokenly bypass an install failure. Let's solve the problem instead. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/491807-wmp-11-beta-2-installation-error/#findComment-587840161 Share on other sites

I even tried turning my firewalls off to see if that would help but no dice. CeNoEviL
I had the same issue that the OP has referred to. Exactly the same circumstances around it...I too went down the route of extract/install...I know of the draw backs of that....has anyone found a fix/workaround yet? TIA CeNo. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/491807-wmp-11-beta-2-installation-error/#findComment-587840904 Share on other sites
JTNY71
I had the same problem here is what I did. Start the computer up in safe mode with networking and install WMP 11. Restart your computer in normal mode and start up WMP 11 to continue the installation. The only problem I have is that Urge music store still says my computer is not connected to the Internet. Kraftman
http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0...-v1.0-WinXP.exe Download and install that, then retry the install. Worth a shot. lexecutil
I had this same problem. Try running setup with the /Q switch :) That is the silent switch which seemed to let it install okay. Just make sure you wait until the install processes are all gone in task manager before you try to start WMP. lexecutil
Enter the path of the setup file in the run dialog (enclose it in quotes), then add /q on the end.. eg: "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Desktop\wmp11setup.exe" /q :) Dan Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/491807-wmp-11-beta-2-installation-error/#findComment-587842898 Share on other sites
