In XP turnning off LCD screen after x min is an option in power options. ( Monitor Standby Mode )

Now in Vista the option is still there but now working properly. My LCD screen is black but the back light is still on.

Anyone have same experience?

Edit: Confirmed Bug with ATI gfx card

Note: i am on a Laptop so i can manually turn off the LCD.

Since i keep my computer on whole night i would like it to turn off the monitor. Normally in XP Power options when i set it to turn off the monitor the actually monitor is actually off. ( No Backlight, just like you switch it off )

But in Vista The backlight is on 24 /7 .

I have the exact same problem, so you are not alone. What graphics card (intel, nvidia, ati) and driver version are you using? I am using a ATI Radeon 9600XT with ATI's Vista RC0 drivers (ati_LH_RC0_32.exe). ATI does have some new drivers out on their website intended for RC1, but I have yet to install them. I am using Vista pre-RC1 Build 5536. Hopefully, we will be able to see if this is an isolated problem affecting just one card manufacturer or driver version, or determine if it is cross platform bug or a bug on Microsofts side.

Hi

Same probs here, two pc, a laptop with mobility 9600 and a desktop with Xpress X200, with Vista drivers (RC1) or with ATI drivers.

Two pc LCD light shutdown well in XP but not in Vista.

I'll try with another PC and another card and try to say you.

I am confused. Are you guys talking about LITERALLY turning off the monitor or putting it in "Stand By mode"? Because in Vista RC1 it turns off my monitor just fine and I didn't even set anything?

Hi we talk about standby (ex : if you don't touch your pc for 5 min, the screen swith off and when you 'shake' the mouse it wake).

I will try something at my job today, I find a screen saver which put screen in standby mode. I'll say you soon.

I have a Dell 600m with Radeon mobility 9000. I'll have to watch and see if the backlite stays on. Right now I do have the problem where if I close the lid of the laptop the screen does not turn off, however if I set it to hibernate when I close the lid it will do that, so I know it is recognizing that the lid is closed. As of right now I wouldn't blame anything on Microsoft, more that certain drivers are not working correctly or require custom drivers from the laptop manufacture.

I've tried something :

I've installed Standard VGA driver instead of ATI driver (microsoft one or ATI one).

The standby of the screen works correctly with it, when I install ATI drivers again. No standby !

We should all put feedback with ATI Feedback crew for Vista drivers, they may release a new one soon !

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. SF935 Autotype: Specifying '\v{name}' in the autotype text will cause the corresponding value to be autotyped. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
