I am already back to XP for now. RC1 is giving random BSOD's on my system. Didn't have this problem with other builds. I will stick with my previous statement. I will run Vista on another drive for testing, but I will run XP until I am forced to get Vista for the DX10 games that, will eventually, start coming down the pipe. I am sure that it will be awhile before that happens though.

Someone took my review format....

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=492597

I'll let it slide for now....

Actually i didnt steal it - i planned to install on two computers - but dabs.com are a bit late delivering the 2nd hard drive :p

Anyway, most reviews look the same anyway :) Plus yours is like a sentence :p

Jokes aside, its just a review - it has titles to split it out into easier categories, and if you copyrighted the categories and have a valid copyright for a review format i will edit it to comply...

Program installs

Nothing outright refused to install.

Drivers

I was ready to use this as my fulltime OS until i got around to installing some non-important drivers (camera, printer). Complete failure. Though I wouldn't pin this on Microsoft for these problems, it just serves as a reminder that Vista is not ready for primetime in terms of driver support. Vista can be used as a full-time OS but not the only OS. You need to dual-boot with XP for some missing functionality.

Built-in programs

I tried tagging some photos in Windows Photo Gallery and found out that it takes a while for the data to get written to the actual image file (metadata is stored in the file itself). Media Center's UI looks superb however it's difficult to navigate with a mouse. YOu have to actually hover over the arrows to move in any direction. A bit confusing.

i dont remember using any of those headings or subjects as a matter of fact in my review? nor did you use most of the headings in my review. To be honest, with the exception of "installation" and "performance", they are completely different reviews.

I'll let it slide for now....

And i am truely, and honestly, eternally grateful to you...

The FX5500 was a low end card when it was released, and now, no offence, but it's just... a junk card. :p

It's basically an overclocked FX5200, nothing else. :)

Yes but when you consider that probably 90% of Windows users probably have something akin to Intel's GMA900/950, the 5500 is a relative powerhouse. I benched my 1.6 Pentium M laptop in 3DMark01 and the GMA900 couldn't even match the scores I got 5 years ago with an overclocked PIII 600 and a Geforce2.

Intel is going to have to step their game up as far as onboard GPUs are concerned if more people are to get the Aero experience.

Haha, I'm joking. Your review is similar to what I was going to do. I just couldn't think of that many categories. ;)

Nice review!

thankx for the media center review

but i have a few questions

1) What TV card do you have

2) how did you get it to work

3) Does the Guide Listing Work

4) Whats it like in 'adding music/videos/pictures?

5) Whats the driver support like? esp for Hauppauge, Creative (Audigy ZS2) and Nvidia

thank you

    • Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat are free to claim on the Epic Games Store by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe PC gamers have two more games they can add to their library without needing to open their wallets, as the Epic Games Store's freebie offer has just refreshed. That means last week's Warhammer 40K Speed Freeks and The Ouroboros King offer has been replaced by two new games, which happen to be Robobeat and Citizen Sleeper copies. From the duo, Robobeat lands from developer Simon Fredholm, offering a rhythm-based action game. Released only last year, the title puts you into the shoes of Ace, a bounty hunter that's targeting the robot showman Frazzer. The fast-paced title offers movement techniques like wall-running, sliding, and bunny hopping to zoom around while shooting enemies, but the requirement is doing everything to the beat. Outside of built-in tracks, the title also lets players upload their own music to populate its levels too. Next, Citizen Sleeper lands from Jump Over The Age, a sci-fi RPG adventure taking place in a ruined space station where thousands of people are trying to survive. The tabletop RPG-inspired title uses things like dice and clocks to change how the player approaches situations and survives their day-to-day lives. There is a large range of characters to meet with in the station, each with their own storylines and alliances. "You are a sleeper, a digitised human consciousness in an artificial body, owned by a corporation that wants you back," says the developer about the setting. "Thrust amongst the unfamiliar and colourful inhabitants of the Eye, you need to build friendships, earn your keep, and navigate the factions of this strange metropolis, if you hope to survive to see the next cycle." The Citizen Sleeper and Robobeat giveaways are set to run until June 25 on the Epic Games Store, giving PC gamers seven days to claim the latest offer. Once this closes out, new freebies will take its place on the same day. They are supposed to be copies of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Voidwrought. Don't forget that mobile gamers can check out the Epic Game Store's weekly giveaways on Android and iOS to grab a freebie there as well.
    • Vivaldi version 8.0.4033.50 released June 17: https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/minor-update-eight-8-0/
    • The Online part hasn't even been announced and probably won't be included on day one. This is a massive singleplayer game.
    • While I agree with all that, it just proves there's an a** built for every seat.
