Vista (RC1) and ULI based Ethernet (onboard)

Recommended Posts

Hi, First let me get my specs out of the way : Mobo- ULi M1689-K8Upgrade-1689

AMD64 3200

ULi M526x Ethernet (onboard)

OK , So I`ve downloaded and installed the Public Release of RC1 and all is well , EXCEPT for the LAN; which is not working.

Basicly, in the taskbar there is an icon of the LAN with a yellow exclamation mark over it. When clicked , it gives the error "Unidentified Network. Access: Limited Connectivity" (which results in NO internet access)

The default drivers in use are Microsoft 5.1.2600.383. I have also manualy installed the ULi drivers (2.2) from the Nvidia website , which results in the same error.

After doing a little research , I have read that MS have rewriten the network routine (not sure what this means) and that atm , ULi based ethernet is NOT working. I have read somewhere (cant remember where) that if you put your computer into standby or hybernation that this resolves the issue , and it is infact a Hard reboot that is cauing the error (something to do with the nic getting reset or something)

I would just like some sort of clarification on the issue, as ive been unable to find a definative answer anywhere else.

I am realy wanting to test Vista (I have partitions set up ready for it) , but to be honest, without Internet Access , I would find no pleasure in using the new OS at all.

Thanks in advance , I hope I can get this resolved as soon as possible :)

It's a known issue. The only solutions are:

1) Put the computer into sleep mode and then wake it. It should connect almost immediately.

2) Use a commercial program called cFosSpeed. This usually works. I believe they have a 30 day demo.

3) Wait. Sometimes it will connect on its own.
