AOL Testing 'Light' Version of AIM

Recommended Posts

I'm a Gaim user but I have to admit it is not lite by definition. It is unclutttered but not lite (nor heavy) on system resources and understandably so because it supports varying protocols and is reliant on GTK. I hope someone takes advantage of libgaim and makes a client specifically for Windows. It would be great if it could become what Adium is for OS X.

To everyone who wants to use the regular Windows theme, check out the Theming tab on the AIM Lite website http://x.aim.com/laim/theming.php

We aren't ready to go ahead with theming just yet but it's way up there on our list of features to add. We are going to continue working with one main theme, but with upcoming releases look for the ability to make your own theme, or pull in the theme of your system (so it will look like whatever windows theme you are using).

Hope to see some more features like:

Set your own profile and view profiles

Timestamps in chat for each msg as well as in logs

Support for joining/starting chat rooms

Sounds (not important to me but I know some people like having the incoming IM sound)

Privacy features (block/unblock)

See when your buddies are typing and let them see when you are typing

I never really liked direct connect though, rather just file send pictures.

Thanks for everyone?s patience, in a week or so we?ll be releasing v0.31. Here?s a preview of what?s to come:

-- Profile Support!

By FAR the number one requested feature!

-- Example plugins (notifications, sounds, talk, video)

-- Example themes

-- Lots of other little features requested from users, but the same low memory usage and light feel.

If you have auto upgrade checked in your settings then you?ll automatically find out when a new version is available. Keep sending the comments, we are listening!

Hope I'm not resurrecting a dead thread, but they will hopefully be releasing a new version soon. I look forward to profile a:) sounds :)

v0.31 is out!

The big features for this release are profile support, plugins and theming. Keep the WTF? comments pouring in, we are listening. A more complete list of of changes is available here, highlights include:

-- Messaging while away

-- Auto expanding input field

-- Offline IMs

-- Better state change indication

There are a few sample themes and plugins, but we need YOU to help come up new ones. Our architecture will evolve based on what you want to do, so try it out and let us know what you think!

Um... so this application is EXACTLY like gaim? http://gaim.sf.net - including the tab conversations and minimalist approach to design.

It sure is, just like how Firefox is exactly like IE or Opera. They all show websites!

WTF button is GREAT!

I like how you can sample the OS GUI. idk if that was previously available.

No sounds, I don't mind. Miniaim didn't have any.

Buddy Aliases are here, which is great.

File tranfsers is there, and that's all the more i could ask for.

Overall very slick, and it is now my new default AIM client. Good work! (Y)

/edit

close=minimize to tray ftw! I hate buddy lists that stick in my taskbar.

    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode. • Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is getting a simultaneous release across PC and all consoles by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Square Enix showed up to the Summer Game Fest presentation today with multiple trailers showing off its next chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga. The final chapter of this trilogy now has an official name too, with it being dubbed Final Fantasy VII Revelation, following up Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from recent years. Vincent Valentine, Cid, Cloud, Barret, Tifa, and more showed up in the trailers as they battle against enemies, or 'Weapons,' from the final chapter. "As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, the final battle against Sephiroth begins," says the trailer description. "A meteor mars the sky, monstrous planetary guardians wreak havoc across the globe, and the fires of war rage. Now, Cloud and his companions must stand against this chaos to not only decide the planet's fate, but bring a legendary conflict to its conclusion." Following the reveal trailer, the show also dropped some gameplay footage that shows off a new way to travel across the open world using the Highwind airship. Players will be able to swap characters on during battles, use tactical mode to synchronize with allies, and summon their entities. Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine are joining the party this time too. “FINAL FANTASY VII, first released in 1997, has been beloved by fans for many years and has since become a “legend” in its own right," added producer Yoshinori Kitase. "The FINAL FANTASY VII Remake Series that began in 2020 with everyone’s passionate support is finally reaching its climactic finale with FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. The story’s final destination represents my emotions spanning thirty years working on this title" One of the biggest revelations of this announcement, however, was the multiplatform release confirmation from the get-go. Square Enix will be releasing Final Fantasy VII Revelation across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027 without any timed exclusivity programs.
    • Hello, Having a simple utility to allow Microsoft's customers to configure the context menu, with a few options like showing the current menu, showing a proposed menu/alternate configurations, loading and saving the settings, and a "reset to default" option would have solved this. Let Microsoft provide a recommended default look-and-feel, maybe a couple alternative configurations, like a basic/simplified version of that, and a more advanced version for that, and that would have been very well-received, I think. Microsoft could even had offered a library of different configurations, similar to what they have done in the past for Windows Media Player skins, Themes, and desktop wallpaper. • No Steam release. It's gonna fail on PC. Even an Epic Online engineer said that people go there for the free stuff and then immediately go back to Steam.
    • Nice. Admittedly, his other games never interested me, but this seems pretty cool.
