I disable HT/Dual Core/Etc to get maximum performance on my primary cpu. Games work the best in this configuration.

Thanks for the patch tho, already knew it was out, but R3/4 already? Dayum!

If anything, i could see that slowing it down (on a dual core system that is, HT would probably speed it up)

Mainly because your turing off one core, and forcing everything to work on one core only, on my system, hl2 (for example) runs entirely on core 2, uses all of it, everything else then runs on Core 1.

And i'll have to try this hotfix, wonder if i'll see any improvements (no idea how great though, i seem to miss small things)

Wierd, you have anything in mind that I should try?

Don't know... you are the only one to get wierd things... But I won't care too mush of BF2142... to me BF2 still in "Beta" phase due to numerous bugs... so don't expect that mush from the pre-release demo of 2142...

As info I can't remap some buttons... they just kept unchanged...

Anyone with Core Duo can vouch for the performance increase using the aforementioned patch? Also, where can we get Rev 4 of that patch (as indicated at the Microsoft KB)?

I've been using this hotfix for quite some time on my dual core machines... it's not so much as a performance increase, but more of a compatability feature for older non multi-threaded apps/games. I still use it though, nothing wrong with being up-to-date with patches etc.

Sorry, I don't have any connections with Rev4 :s, you have to be a Microsoft tester or whatever inorder to get it

I'm afraid I don't have a dual-core processor (yet. give me about 2 years, lol). Is there a patch or update or program similar to this item that can do the same thing but for single core processors (Intel Celeron preferred)?

I found a more detail on how to go about getting this Core Duo patch work @ http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60416

Do share your experiences :D

This has been known for so long and only now it comes to Neowin  . You will not see much of a performance boost if you just open windows and browse the internet. There's also not much difference in performance as the fix only applies to notebooks. Desktops I believe already have this feature enabled though I could be wrong.

If your rendering video or 3D models, you might notice a slight difference in speed, but other than that it barely noticeble. Windows Vista I believe correctly reads dual-core so the update does not need to be applied for it.

I forgot to add that AMD has a very good solution to this problem by fooling Windows XP that there's only one processor running on a dual-core machine. I'm a bit unclear about the name of the program but I hear it is pretty neat.

Scirwode

Well, the problem is how Windows schedules things with a dual core chips, single core chips don't have that problem.

Unless they have that hack HyperThreading enabled.

This patch installs these files:

29-Sep-2005 00:02 5.1.2600.2765 2.136.064 Ntkrnlmp.exe

28-Sep-2005 23:35 5.1.2600.2765 2.057.344 Ntkrnlpa.exe

28-Sep-2005 23:35 5.1.2600.2765 2.015.744 Ntkrpamp.exe

29-Sep-2005 00:04 5.1.2600.2765 2.180.096 Ntoskrnl.exe

On my system these files are on build 5.1.2600.2774 and come form the WindowsXP-KB909095-x86-ENU

update. So i guess many other improvements are included since the 896256 update.

    • Forza Horizon 6 gets big bug-fixing and balancing update by Taras Buria Today, Playground Games released a big Forza Horizon 6 update with a long list of fixes, patches, and balancing tweaks that the studio promised earlier. Version 375.327 is now available on Steam, Microsoft Store, and Xbox, offering users improvements for AI, audio, design, performance, road discovery, upgrades, visuals, online play, and more. Some of the most notable changes in the Series 2 update include rebalanced drivatars, particularly their difficulty and race start behavior. As such, the game should be more balanced on higher difficulty levels, and AI cars should not shoot out when the race starts as if they have rocket boosters. Speaking of difficulty, developers nerfed Drag Tires physics for a more expected and realistic behavior. They are no longer the go-to option for record-breaking times in road racing, and all leaderboard entries with drag tires will be removed. Completionists will also be glad to get a new feature that lets you see road discovery percentage in each region, which should make discovering all roads easier while keeping it quite challenging and interesting (I spent quite a long time finding the last road). Festival Playlist is also getting some much-needed fixes, including patches for bugs that allowed completing Seasonal Jobs ahead of time or where weekly challenges would not unlock for some players. Developers will retroactively give reward points to all who could not complete all challenges due to these bugs. Other changes include changes to Horizon Play progression so that it is easier to reach Level 100, audio improvements on lower-spec devices, fixes for visual glitches, including pixelated smoke, and more. Developers also addressed the currently non-working Eliminator, an online mode gamers used to farm credits with a Hummer EV exploit. Playground Games plans to re-enable it soon. As a gesture of goodwill, players will get a free McLaren Sabre. Those who used the exploit will not be banned, but developers plan to roll back credits to a maximum of 10M for all who farmed credits using the exploit. You can find the complete changelog for the latest Forza Horizon 6 update here.
