Gigabyte GeForce 7600 GT 256 Mb

Man you're lucky. I've got a 7800gt and the screen flickers way more than it should for CoH. Nvidia is really making me consider ATI for the next computer I build. Yes I know it's a release candidate, but if they're going to release drivers that say RC2, then they should work as stable video drivers: on RC2.

Sigh after hearing these comments I'm not very excited about this :/

OK, here's a positive comment:

These drivers are an improvement over 96.33. Games like UT2004 finally run decent again, some GUI glitches I saw in Prey were gone, and for videos they don't seem to stutter anymore. (This also could be because I just flipped Superfetch off.)

But for those complaining about low FPS versus XP's drivers: give it some time. They (nVidia) haven't completed their freaking control panel yet.

Oh, I'm sure those guys that ran into the error code 43 problem for a long time would be more than grateful to get at least a game working over flickering problems in a specific game. Does ATI have OpenGL support yet for their drivers?

Update: These drivers are a no go for me. They caused my screen to go berserk when a game or screen saver is on the screen and i have to restart the computer to see anything again. It is the type of screen when you set your resolution too high and everything goes scrambled, thats what it looks like.

Same.. XP ftw.

First nVidia driver to work well with my BFG 7900GT. The drivers are not sign so you get a RED popup window when trying to install them. I just clicked "Allow" and everything when fine. This is using x64 RC2.

Dual monitor works great (as with default Vista RC2 driver, I had no problem).

No problem playing Need For Speed Most Wanted or Sims2.

 :)

Youre lucky.. Duals doesn't work at me in vista at all

My 7900GT is connected to a dual display, one 22" 1680x1050 (main) and a 19" 1280x1024 (secondary)

The only problem I have is with Media Player. Movies are choppy on the main display but fine and smooth on the secondary display!!! And that happen even if i'm not in full screen... Using whatever codec!

Microsoft has already said that EAX and any direct driver hooks into the audio system are DOA in Vista (which renders Creative X-Fi a $150 equivalent to a SoundBlaster 16). It's not going to be pretty when Microsoft confirms that SLI & CrossFire (and any direct driver hooks into the video system) are DOA in Vista.

Where are you getting this information? It's plain wrong. Creative has new beta drivers for X-Fi for RC2, works very well for the first time. nVidia and ATI just need to make new drivers for Vista and SLI and CF will work with no problem.

It's a new OS with new requirements for drivers. Give it some time and everything will work great. Anyway, they all have until january 2007 to build good working drivers, since it's only at that time that "everybody" will be able to buy Vista. November release of Vista is only for business, not very hardcore users.

These drivers are alright, I get higher FPS in battlefield 2142 and dual monitors still work fine, like they did with the stock drivers that came with RC2. However I still get serious curruption in full screen games, I have to run the game in a window and all problems are gone, I just match the game's video resolution with my desktop resolution and the game apears full screen, but in a maximized window. Sticking with these drivers over the stock RC2 ones just because I get higher FPS in gaming.

nVidia makes extremely good drivers for Windows XP! They keep improving them over and over again, so i think that they just need some time!

BTW: Vista is released within ca. 10 days, but that's for business etc. When nVidia get's the final Vista, they will start developing at high-speed to get us some very good, working, fully featured drivers!

Some random unsupported quoter on the intarweb has already said that EAX and any direct driver hooks into the audio system are DOA in Vista (which renders Creative X-Fi a $150 equivalent to a SoundBlaster 16). Fixed that for you.

*Sigh* Go ahead and try to use EAX or CMSS. Guess what, they don't work. There's a long post from one of the Creative reps on their forums explaining that those type of features are no longer supported in Vista. Lots of people are angry about it, but nothing Creative can do about it.

Has nVidia or ATI confirmed that SLI/Crossfire support is forthcoming? Don't count on it... Maybe on DX10-level cards.

Direct Quotes from Creative Forums Rep on their support forums:

"The Vista audio architecture changes the way per-stream audio processing works, which required us to write new software to support this. Issues that may be encountered: CMSS no longer works on audio streams from the OS."

"The Vista audio architecture disables DirectSound 3D hardware acceleration; resulting in legacy DirectSound based EAX game titles not working as they did in XP. Issues that may be encountered:

Could range from loss of EAX functionality in EAX enabled games to a complete game incompatibility, depending on how the game title was authored."

At least Creative is being upfront about it and admitted it. You try telling hundreds of people who spent $150 on an audio card that their expensive card now functions like a $5 onboard Realtek audio chip in Vista.

nVidia and ATI are simply being evasive about the lack of SLI support in Vista.

Hey, Creative is writing it themself... "REQUIRED US TO WRITE NEW SOFTWARE". It's Creative job to make their card work with Vista.

It's the same for SLI or CF. It's not the OS that enable SLI, it never was even with WinXP. It's the drivers that do the job. I've read on nVidia forum that SLI enable driver would be out by the time Vista ship to everyone in january 2007. I guess it must be the same for ATI.

I cry utter bullcrap coming from Creative. Just why does it (CMSS on OS audio streams) work ON THEIR BETA 2 DRIVER and not in their RC1 driver? They must've broken something deliberately.

But thanks for posting that quote above; I was wondering why CMSS failed to work with the RC2 drivers. Crap, now it looks like starting from next month I'll have to put up with bugged drivers because Creative like smart arses decided to drop timebombs on drivers.

I'm not sure whats going on, but I upgraded to RC2 from 5728. For some reason I can't install Vista on my desktop without already being in an OS (specifically XP or Vista itself). I can boot to the dvd, but when I get into the setup application it fails and says that its missing a required driver to install. I can use the exact same dvd and install it on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) without any problems at all. The DVD drive I have in my desktop is a NEC ND-3500A. Vista doesn't seem to like that drive at all.

But anyway, here's the problem that I'm having with RC2 but didn't have with RC1 (and also a problem I had with RC1 but don't have with RC2, so I guess its kind of a trade off).

1.) RC1 Problem: Media center would not change channels correctly when using my satellite receiver. If i had something set to record, it would constantly change to the wrong channel and wouldn't record the correct show.

RC1 Good Side: No problems using Media Center or WMP11 full screen watching videos.

2.) RC2 Problem: Media Center and WMP 11 flickers VERY badly when using it full screen, but in windowed mode, its fine. It also causes the audio to stutter very badly as well (I upgraded both the audio and video drivers, new nVidia drivers and new Creative Audigy drivers)

RC2 Good Side: Media Center changes channels correctly consistently now when recording.

Its like I can't win for anything. Also, I cant play Scarface: The World Is Yours on Vista. The video is so corrupted you can't see anything on screen. The game works fine in XP though. However, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory runs great on Vista at 1600x1200 with everything set to max on my 6800 Ultra, it also shows up in the Game Explorer.

I just hope these problems are attributed to bad drivers. I'll try uninstalling both the video drivers and reinstalling them to see if that fixes the problem (i didn't uninstall the RC1 nvidia drivers before I installed the RC2 drivers).

    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.

    • "No. The "New Outlook for Windows" does not support non-cloud mailboxes (such as on-premises Exchange servers). Furthermore, because the New Outlook effectively functions as a web-based client, it requires all connected accounts—even standard IMAP or POP accounts—to route and cache data through Microsoft's cloud servers. You can verify the accepted account setups using the Microsoft Supported Account Types Guide." Built to fail "New" Outlook is basically just webmail in a window wrapper and it's usefulness reflects that.
