AutoPatcher XP October 2006

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Quick question regarding using XP AP for English:

Is it safe to assume that all critical updates/patches for a particular month in AP shud just be installed without really reading/seeing if they are needed on a particular system? (Not sure of how to actually check this, though?! Any help appreciated!!)

I am a bit confused by this issue!

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

CP

:( Hi I m Panosmon from Monemvasia Greece

By the time i installed the last AutoPatcher in my pc

all my autodesk progs (Autocad 2000-Land 2005) exept the Autocad 2006 failed to open

I fact they all give the same error:autoCad Error Aborting

All of the possible directories for storing temporary files either do not exist or are readonly

Can anyone help me?

Sorry for desturbing

Great stuff - used this for a long while now - totally fantastic !!

One question : Is the next release gonna be a FULL XPsp2 English ?

I'll probably do a Full and a QMUP. Heck, maybe gandolas will do the Full. Bandwidth here sucks big time.

Greetings from Lamia!

I have never used any of Autodesk's applications, so I'm not quite sure what ticked it off.

A quick google search however brought up some results, as it seems others are having the same problem. Check http://discussion.autodesk.com. I'm sure you'll find something there.

I believe you still have to get that from Windows/Microsoft Update after running Autopatcher. I can't imagine that would be included, but I may be wrong.

Quick question, does the auto patcher for xp also work for media center 2005, meaning does it have rollup 2 in there?

I'll probably do a Full and a QMUP. Heck, maybe gandolas will do the Full. Bandwidth here sucks big time.

for your time and search

Panosmon :)

hi I haver just been directedto this site . I have just downloaded autopatcher xp octo 06 enu updatee. Once installled it wont run plase plasse help thanks :( :(

i'm a new user too. it's a bit confusing at first...

you need to install

1) AutoPatcher_XP_Aug06_ENU_Full

then 2) AutoPatcher_XP_Sep06_ENU_Update

then 3) AutoPatcher_XP_Oct06_ENU_Update

if you read through the message board you'll see this same question again and again.

ps: kudos to the autopatcher team, this tool makes formats and reinstalls so much faster and easier than windows update, thank you for all your hard work and for making it available.

Exactly!

How about instead of looking through all the threads just use a direct link from Cachefly's servers in the current month's thread. It would save everyone a lot of trouble by being "user friendly", right?

August Full

That way it would save the step of navigating through the past month(s) threads, and silence the constant question of where to download the last full version. Cachefly will always have the latest English full version for XP! I think it's a good idea and should be implemented in next months thread. Raptor what do you think?

Fantastic if theres a november FULL - If not - Fantastic anyway.

I appreciate your work on this and whatever you can get sorted is fine by me.

Going to rebuild my home box before christmas either way, and i can just pull down a full and the updates if required.

Keep up the good work, and be safe !!!!!!!!!!!

HELP! PLEASE!

I cannot for the life of me get Autopatcher to work. I have downloaded the XP October 2006 patcher program but am getting the 'Run time error 429 - activeX component can't create object!' message when I try to run the program. I've followed all the advice and instructions in the FAQ help but it is not working!

This is what I've tried and recommends on the AutoPatcher site:

Install both the setup files in AutoPatchers \win9xnt folder

If that doesnt work, go to start > run, type REGSVR32 SCRRUN.DLL and press enter

If that doesnt work, copy files from C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\bin to C:\Windows\System32

None of these things work.

I can't find a 'win9xnt' folder

Running this REGSVR32 SCRRUN.DLL says 'succeeded' but doesn't fix my problem.

I don't know what files to copy to put into C:\Windows\System32. It says copy from C:\Program Files\AutoPatcher\bin but I can't find a 'bin' directory.

All I have is an AutoPatcher folder in Program Files which contains a folder called 'modules' an autorun file, a setup application icon and an uninstall application icon.

I'm going out of my mind - can anyone help.

If you can please speak slowly and clearly because I am not a computer wizz like you guys.

Cheers

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
