2 New Sockets for Intel in 2008

Recommended Posts

Intel is going to implement 2 new sockets for the next generation Nehalem architecture in 2008 and they are Socket B and Socket H. As we know, Nehalem is 45nm based and we are going to see some exciting changes such as IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) and CSI. Socket B will be LGA1366 and Socket H will be LGA715. The reason why Socket B has so many more contact pads is pretty obvious. It is due to the IMC on the Nehalem CPU. Since there is a Socket H version as well, we can expect there will be another Nehalem based CPUs without IMC.

The LGA775 introduced in 2003 will have lived long time compared to AMD's Socket 754, 939, AM2 and in 2008 AM3...

AMD's Socket 939 was the only socket which was really worth anything, the others are just useless until better processors come out, but those sockets are already being phased out, or being planned to. Socket 754 lived a short life.

Do you know that the Socket 939 as go out in 2004 and will stop producing the 31 December 2006?

Socket 754 as started in 2003 and still in production of Semprons.

Socket 775 is since 2004 and will end in 2008 or 2009.

Who is the most useless now for supporting Value, mainstream, high-end and Flagship CPUs?

Yeah, but Intel makes up for it with all those chipset revisions. Just a different variation on the horse and carrot IMO.

Well, we can't stop the evolution...

But you know, maybe you needed to change motherboard, but the CPU support is there, the actual King for the Conroe board, the P5W DH Deluxe, support all LGA775 cpus from the first series of Pentium 4 5xx. So, if you have a old CPU, you can change your motherboard without the cost of a new CPU in same time. Kinda more useful.

the race between Intel and AMD is like kicking a can down the road... each company will over take one another and then come to a rolling stop, only for the other company to over take it. then once again, another big kick to eventually come to a rolling stop.

Intel is jumping ahead of AMD right now with the Core 2 Duo, and now this... But watch out Intel, AMD has another kick behinds it's can, ready to over take Intel with it's AM3

yeah, but keep in mind that all socket 939 MB supported ALL 939 processors with no problems. So while it might be nice to have a new MB that supports an older processor, it'd be even better if I can just swap the processor.

    • Personally, I think these things are way over rated and way over priced, even at this price. I recently had Frontier Fiber installed with 2 of these devices and although they worked, I switched back to my own router and AP setup and get way better consistency on wireless speed than with Eeros. Wired speed seems to be more consistent also. Will be returning Eeros soon. I had told Frontier I didn't want them to begin with.
    • Yes, exactly what I have been thinking. Don't make the context menu simpler, make it smarter to learn what I actually use. And then, give me the ability to pin settings that I rarely use but need forget where they are.
