poe44256
In making my switch to Apple from MS, I picked up a G3 Desktop 333Mhz which I am upgrading. I am running OS X 10.2. I have a new PCI network card and ATI Rage video card. A G4 ZIF processor will ordered soon. However, what exactly does my "personalilty card" do? Is it just a sound card. Can it be replaced with one? thanks
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted November 16, 2002 Veteran Share Posted November 16, 2002 Never heard of it... Where are you seeing this personality card?
poe44256
This is from "LowEndMac" web site's description of my G3. www.lowendmac.com/ppc/g3b.shtm Personality Card slot (matches Comm Slot II; supports DVD, AV input/output, 128-bit graphics, and FireWire cards)
Chad
I've never heard of it, but I did some searching on google "The Personality Card 'Whisper' of the small Power Macintosh G3 includes little more than the essential sound chip ('Screamer', Crystal CS 4212) with 16-bit stereo resolution and an amplifier for head phones and the internal speaker. Apples GeoPort fax modem card connects to the modem slot of 'Whisper'. " "An audio-codec is necessary by the way: because the ROM looks for sound hardware during booting, the computer will not even start without the Personality Card." I couldn't find much else on it. Apparently the slot either supports some sort of graphics card, or the sound card.
poe44256
Thank you for the info. You had better luck with your Google search than I did. If anyone knows if this can be upgraded, I would appreciate it. Thanks again
