Do you want to move or copy files from this zone?

Vista 5840:

How do I get rid of this stupid annoying popup "Do you want to move or copy files from this zone?" every time I try to move/copy a file/folder from one computer to another on my LOCAL network???

Vista 5744: a similar popup with a different text: "This page has an unspecified potential security risk".

I have seen a lot of issues on this topic on the net, but it seems that nobody has a solution. Maybe there are some guru in this forum that has the ultimate solution??

Oh, I found the solution myself!! :D

To get rid of this annoying pop-up message do the following:

Open Control Panel -> Internet Options.

Open Security-tab; mark the zone "Local intranet", press the "Sites" button,

UN-tick "Automatically detect intranet network", THEN

tick "Include all local (intranet) sites not listed in other zones" and

tick "Include all network paths (UNCs)".

My XP pc does this since I installed IE7. Whenever I open a file on a network share (mapped drive), or save a file to a network drive, or right click a file on a network drive, or copy or move a file on a network drive, I get the attached error:

post-145778-1162839498.jpg

Note that the error title bar says internet explorer, although I was using windows explorer at the time - I guess they're still very closely linked then!

The network is a simple workgroup network, and every user account on every machine has full access to every other share on every machine. I have a feeling the bug may be related to compressed zipped folders, winzip, or winrar, because it only seems to occur when the folder concerned has a .zip file in, or whenever I mouseover a zip file, or right click a zip file, or do anything else in the same folder as a zip file.

On a side note, has anyone had a go at resource hacking vista/xp to make the default action of pressing enter to be yes rather than no on all the security boxes? I prefer to be able to see the box, but not have to reach for the mouse to dismiss it.

just have - that fixed it thanks!

The "automatic detection" obviously isn't all that good if it presumes a network share in the same workgroup on the same subnet is in the "internet zone". I spose it probably requires domain membership to check that the computer is actually trusted.

I have discovered that:

in Vista 5840 the popup message is:

"Internet Explorer" - "Do you want to move or copy files from this zone?"

in Vista 5744 AND IE7 under Windows XP the popup message is:

"Internet Explorer" - "This page has an unspecified potential security risk."

My solution in post #4 is the solution to "remove" both of these messages.

Sorry to say that it didn't work for me in 5744.

EDIT: Dammit. I then add my domain name to the sites list in the 'advanced' part of the dialog you mention, and it got rid of them. Cheers!

An autonomous AI system built by researchers at Amazon's A-EVO-Lab completed a full post-training run on a 30 billion parameter NVIDIA Nemotron model — with no human in the loop, across four rounds running over multiple weeks — and then did something its designers had not planned for: it detected that its own internal evaluation metric had become misleading and redesigned the search strategy it was using to improve itself. https://www.techtimes.com/articles/319123/20260626/nvidia-ai-trained-itself-30b-model-corrected-its-own-broken-metric-mid-run.htm

    • If Ford would stop hiring SUITS to run the company, and put CAR GUYS back in charge perhaps they could do better. Heck, the only CAR they produce today is the Mustang. Hey Ford! Not everyone needs/wants an overpriced SUV or pickup truck that is so tall you have to have a step ladder to get in and out of it.
    • Amazing how some will just jump all over something. Probably the same people that thought Musk was a "tech god" before he saddled up with "bad orange man". Before, they worshiped at his feet, including a lot of so called hollywood types. Now, because he fell off the plantation truck, they toss him under the bus.
