No internet connection after Stand By/Hibernate

This problem came up over the last month or so. Whenever I come back from either mode, my internet on my PC doesn't work. I have to manually shutdown and reboot everytime. Not sure if it matters or if they are conflicting but I'm using Zone Alarm and Avast together. I'm at my wits end with this machine and am ready to put a sledgehammer to it. Can anyone shed any light onto what's happening or where I can look to find out more about what's happening? Thanks in advance.

A bit more background may help.

How are you connecting to the internet? (usb modem, router, ics through another computer)

Try log off rather than a complete restart and see if that works.
