But you have to take into account that without a graphic card, the CPU has to process whatever applications that is running and output it to the screen. With a dedicated graphic card, the CPU can just concentrate on whatever task it is doing and leave the monitor screen or output in this case to a graphic card. Even a budget graphic card can help out. It doesn't have to be a gaming machine.

It's a bit confusing to me why they won't put it in. The Macbook Pro serves a different market so there is no way that the Macbook can threaten it. So then why? Heating issues?

of course youre right, but the macbook is supposed to do easy tasks, its not a "pro" notebook and the core2duo with 4mb cache plus the intel chip is more then enough still.

the macbook pro does have his own graphics card. full stop. and its enough, its good enough.

at the moment the macbook serves a different market than the macbook pro. but if you put a graphic card into the macbook while staying at the current pricepoint people would think of getting a macbook but not a macbook pro because it would be cheaper, lighter and could handle pro applications...

Well, I give you that. It's just that for me, it's a bit of a let down that it doesn't have a graphic card. Sure even with a dedicated graphic card, it won't be able to render a 3D model in LightWave. But it will help when you're arranging those family photos or playing high definition videos.

just for the record: i know what youre talking about. ;) id also like to have a graphic card in the macbook, would be nice BUT thisone is not bad, its even pretty good and enough for most of us.

and of course the macbook is not capable of render 3d models in lightwave but thats what the macbook pro would be there. :)

:laugh: Sorry, but I am just amused how Apple gets criticized for making their PCs too "high end and expensive", and then gets also criticized that their lower-end unit with integrated graphics is criticized for not being "high end enough".

Back on-topic, this is a nice update for the MacBook. (Y)

Been using the MacBook 1.83 since it came out - no superdrive, intel graphics - no big deal.

The Macintosh line is what it is. There is the consumer line and the pro line. There is meant to be a distinction between the two - the low end and the high end.

If Apple threw in a crippled ATI 1050 or 1150 (Whatever the low end integrated graphics chip is now) and took out the integrated graphics, then the battery life would suffer a bit more and it would further BLUR the line between the MacBook PROS and the MacBook.

Why the heck would I pay extra for a MacBook when I can get the exact same configuration in the MacBook.

The only difference between the two systems (if the MacBook had a better, faster graphics chip) would be:

1. FW 800 port

2. larger screen by 2"

As for gaming... I am not doing a lot of gaming on my MacBook, but I can play World Of Warcraft on my laptop with acceptable framerates - it isn't stellar, but even the integrated graphics chip does what it needs to.

Now - for a 1,000 (or 1,200) - are there many PC laptops that are built that have the specs of the MacBook PRO (my meaning is that the MacBook is the entry level Mac - or highly portable Mac).

I love my MacBook.

Pumped it out to as much as I could: 2 GB's of RAM (bought on Newegg.com) and 100 GB SATA drive (that was the best price per GB at the time 4 months ago).

Now I have a 20" iMac Core Duo and 17" iMac Core 2 Duo - I use those for gaming - and my MacBook for productivity.

and for those of you out there straddling the fence - I use a PC too - there are just way too many games for the PC right now and until Apple starts putting the MCE 2005 based DVR functions on Apple Mac OS X, I will continue using the PC... When their FRONT ROW has the ability to record TV (through Apple's software and not 3rd party apps like CatEye and stuff) then I will ditch my PC.... but it still hangs on.

My point was that post didn't make sense.

"Coca-Cola is worse than Toyota, because Coca-Cola uses a different sugar supplier like every three days."

He was complaining about Apple (a PC hardware-based company) using a different supplier/archetecture for their processors. And contrasting that to Microsoft (a software-based company). Nonsensical post.

:huh: WTF? Technology is continually changing mate, of course they are going to upgrade their laptops when newer and better stuff comes along?..besides they are not the ones releasing new processors it is Intel. Apple just puts them in their laptops?..

anyways, its not actually apple who brings out new technology every "3 months", its intel. ;)

PLUS its a good thing, that they pull out new things frequently, because that way you can either stay high tech with enough money

or you just keep your old machine, which, and thats (almost) always fact with apple computers, still is amazingly good

and buy the newest technology the day you get all your money right.

certainly the folks who bought a macbook coreduo like two weeks ago are ****ed but with apple its like... you always HAVE

to stay tuned and plan abit. ;)

i will have the money ready like at the end of november or the first two weeks of december.

great, infact, the days get shorter, the nights longer, i literally see me sitting on my bed, enjoying a

hot cup of even hotter chocolate, the macbook on my legs hopefully getting not so hot, rain or snow

or darkness outside, exploreing the greatness of mac osx and my brand new freaking macbook!

i didnt have a notebook for like 3 years now and i so missed it.

awwww i am so ****ing looking forward to that!!

      OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.

      I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
