On tonight live in America, tomorrow night on Bravo in the UK. Im looking forward to this event, mainly because of the Hughes/GSP fight. Hughes may be a dick, but he is an absolute animal.

GSP being one of my favourite fighters, obviously i want him to win, but hes been out for a while with a few nagging injuries, and its always the same when a fighter comes back from a long time out, they lose.

As much as id love to see Hughes get his face punched in, sadly i dont think its going to happen. Last time these two fought, GSP was all over Hughes, but it got stopped due to excessive bleeding.

The Sylvia/Monson fight is going to be a good one, its like David Vs Goliath, but David actually has a chance. If Monson takes down Sylvia, due to his height hes going to have no chance in hell of being able to stop it.

Ive never liked Sylvia, i dont think hes a good enough fighter to be the champion. And according to a few interviews by other MMA fighters ive read, he seems to be a bit of an arrogant prick.

Lets hope Jeff Monson gets the job done, he deserves it.

Frank Mir vs Brandon Vera - Brandon Vera is an extremely good up and comer in UFC, hes won his last few fights, and i expect him to win this one also tonight. Frank Mir is past it, hes never going to get back to what he was before his motorbike accident. He doesnt stand a chance against Vera in my eyes.

Other fights on the event..

Alessio Sakara (204 lbs.) vs Drew McFedries (202 lbs.)

Joe Stevenson (155 lbs.) vs Dokonjonosuke Mishima (154.5 lbs.)

Nick Diaz (171 lbs.) vs Gleison Tibau (171 lbs.)

Antoni Hardonk (242.5 lbs.) vs Sherman Pendergarst (247.5 lbs.)

Hector Ramirez (203 lbs.) vs James Irvin (205.5 lbs.)

Josh Schockman (235 lbs.) vs Jake O?Brien (232.5 lbs.)

Anyone else looking forward to it?

Well, I won't spoil it so...

Very refreshing to finally see Matt Hughes beaten in the Welterweigh division. If GSP continues to fight like he did last night against Hughes, I don't think anyone in Welterweight could beat him! To completely own what was the most dominant welterweight champion that the UFC have ever had, like GSP did was just TOO damn impressive!

Big congrats to GSP! I think he's gonna be champion for a very long time!

On to the Heavyweight division, it's boring, very boring! Dana White needs to pull out the cheque book and get some decent fighters in, and although highly unlikely, do whatever he damn can to get Fedor into the UFC!

Congrats to Brandon Vera, but it's disappointing to see Mir lose again. He's just not been the same fighter since the accident.

Roll on UFC 66 - Liddell vs Ortiz 2! This is gonna be good!

Ive steered away from this topic all day, just in case there was spoilers in here.

**** me am i happy, GSP is an absolute beast. He was all over Hughes, i thought the fight had ended in the first round, a few more seconds and GSP would have had it there. I have never seen Hughes get so beaten in a match before, it was good to see.

Brandon Vera, what did i tell you. Absolute animal, enough said (Y)

Sanbon - Apologies, i was thinking of a different GSP fight

I've not watched any UFC. I do currently watch a lot of WWE but am getting REALLY turned off by the "antics" and screen time being given to non-wrestlers.

Now I am not going to get into the "wwe is fake" crap, as it's been done to death, and the real idiots are those who think we don't already know this.

However, I have some questions on UFC... Do the fighters have "assigned characters", is all the fighting 100% real, are the grudges 100% real - or is it market crap like the WWE/TNA?

The fighters are real. The blood is real. The rest is Marketing.

I like it alot. I still prefer boxing, and the UFC is abit small, however the skill and stamina is impressive.

Is this a real question? Are you serious? Have you seen a UFC/Pride event before, if not I highly recommend you check one out then decide for yourself if its fake.
I've not watched any UFC.

It is a question, and I would appreciate answers from people who can provide them. I have the feeling from the 10 - 15 minutes I have seen that it's not "fake", but I want to know how "real" it is!

Ok, so all the grudges and character personalities is "creative" just as it is within WWE?

njlouch, all the rivalries are real, all the personalties are real, but a few of them are a bit overhyped to be more than they are.

Ortiz/Shamrock for example, they couldnt stand to be in the same room as eachother, but after their fight, they were hugging saying thanks etc.

I still cant get over how dominating GSP was, i cant really see anyone in the welterweight division who could beat him.

Now onto UFC 66, what an event thats shaping up to be..

My thoughts exactly (Y)

I hope liddell knocks out that punk AGAIN!

You mean Ortiz?

I do too, i mean i do like Ortiz. Sometimes he can be a bit of a dick, and who he is gives him the edge over most opponents. Forrest Griffin for example, fair enough Ortiz won the first round fair and square, but Griffin won the final two, he should have won.

Liddell is an unstoppable force, Ortiz wont beat him.

Listen, all the UFC Events are real, but some of the spouts they have, are obvious publicity.

Like all the pre-fight comments made, complete fighter hype to sell tickets and PPV. With the exception of maybe Shamrock/Ortiz, who obviously just HATE each other, most of the fighters respect one another unless there is a complete lack of disrespect.

Ortiz acts cocky, but hell, everyone wants to see him get killed now, and guess what? They just conn'ed you into buying PPV for it, or at leaast for some people. I'll just wait for the Youtube reel.

Quite a few good stories on websites about GSP..

St. Pierre dethrones Hughes at UFC 65

NEIL DAVIDSON

Canadian Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif ? Georges St. Pierre said he would do his talking in the ring with his first. And he talked up a storm Saturday night.

The 25-year-old mixed martial arts fighter from Montreal dethroned champion Matt Hughes in dominant fashion to take the UFC 170-pound title before 15,350 at Arco Arena in the California capital.

It was a complete victory. The sleek, stylish and athletic St. Pierre humbled a veteran fighter dubbed "the most dominant welterweight champion of all time" by UFC president Dana White.

It's all real. I think the fighters sometimes exaggerate their opinions of an opponent to play psychological games, but there are times where they genuinely share mutual dislike such as Ortiz-Shamrock.

If you're interested in this sport watch PrideFC, it's the far suprerior product over UFC. If you enjoy the WWE type extravagance, PFC offers a bit more than the UFC in that regard too. I think they try to put on more of a "show" without going overboard, and the Japanese crowds are always much into it, which adds a lot to the atmosphere. I don't want to come off as bashing the UFC, because I enjoy it, but, the UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was mediocre in PFC, yet he destroyed arguably the UFC's most dominant fighter (Rich Franklin) in the first round. PFC heavyweight class fighters like Fedor, Filipovic, Barnett or Nogueira would annihilate UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia. Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio Rua would probably dominate their weight class in UFC too. Though you're not allowed to kick (to the head), knee (and maybe stomp) an opponent when they're on the ground in UFC -- that might take something out of their game.

I cringe every time UFC colour commentators promote their fighters as the best in the world.

I doubt either Wanderlei or Rua would be able to beat Liddell. Guess we'll never know now though seeing as the Wanderlei/Liddell match has been cancelled.

Different story with the heavyweights, Cro Cop and Fedor could quite easily beat anybody in the UFC heavyweight division.

It think it depends where they fight; American or Japanese rules dictate Wanderlei or Rua's tactics. But considering that Liddell lost to Quintin Rampage in PrideFC, and Rua has beaten Rampage, as well as Wanderlei beating Rampage quite handily on two separate occasions I'd put my money on Wanderlei. Rua I'd be uncertain. Good fights nonetheless.

    • I can name 10x that on why not to switch.... It's funny outlook/office are going towards web app wrappers, and then MS is now preaching native apps again.... ugh can we just pick a lane and stay in it
    • Absolutely NOBODY has suggested such a conclusion. I am affirming the sober reality check that AV2's overall market adoption will take longer than AV1's adoption rate -- which, by the way, is the whole point of the article! While PCI-SIG is productive (on paper), other WGs have created all sorts of confusing progress plans that consumers have tuned-out of their improvements... HTML/W3C, USB, HDMI, BT, WIFI (ieee802.11) as a few other groups where spec naming conventions, split progress paths, overlapping ambitions... I'm not critiquing the AV specs group; I'm simply affirming that adoption for AV2 faces headwinds beyond the macroeconomics of it all.
