Zune Software fails to install

Recommended Posts

Does WMP11 install correctly to your machine?

What region/locale is your machine set to?

Is it an MCE box?

Does %temp%\ZuneInstall.log have any failure data?

Erm, if that message is to me...

  • Yes, all set up and good
  • UK English
  • Yes
  • No

If you set Locale/Region to US English does it work? Zune isn't supported outside of the US yet, since there's no backend store for it to work with, as far as I'm aware...

In how many places would I have to change that?

Under Standards?

Locale?

Time Zone?

Language for non-Unicode programs?

Sorry if it's a silly question...

PL: I don't know exactly what region setting they're checking here. You're in an unsupported region right now. They probably should have completely blocked you (and Sniper) so that you guys didn't accidentally confuse yourselves, but ...

if you wanted to work, you'd have to get your machine to pretend to be US-EN for the purposes of the install. I don't know what Locale/Region setting they're setting here. I'd likely start with Locale, which controls a lot of things. If that's not helping - ain't there a Zune support number... ?

I think support would laugh at me...

Tried that, still says "No Zune software update found"

Got it to work, via Torrent, instead as from the main site.

It worked, I tried signing in, and it said I can't because of where I live. Fair enough...

How will this affect my experience with the Zune device?

Could you give me the link from where you downloaded it? Also, about the solution in the page 2, I think my problem is not that it stops in 95%. It just says there was an installation error so I don't know if that would work.

Thanks for the link. I read that it had the following things:

* ZuneSetup 5.33MB

* Autorun.inf

* Zune-x86-ENU.exe 36.4MB

* msxml6-x86-ENU(Zune).exe 939KB

* License.htm 83KB

* pyxis.xml 1KB

* Zune01010322.cab 6.42MB

But my question is which one to use. The 5.33 mb Zune setup is the same one and I think that it may not work. Which one did you use? Thanks.

Let me tell you a little story. My old 3rd gen ipod broke last week so I decided "hey lets try out the zune" especially because I wanted a radio tuner as my Ipod had essentially functioned as the hub of my cars music (It directly connected to my pioneer head unit's auxiliary input and the sound was beautiful)

I decided to buy a zune and upon getting it home I was quite happy...that is until I tried to use the software. First off I could not get the software to run in windows vista at all which I consider wholly unacceptable that MS wants to push Zune and Vista yet they would not work together regardless of what I tried. I gave up and rebooted into windows xp sp2 and got the software to install without a hitch (unlike many people my install went flawless)

Upon trying to load music to my zune sometimes it would work, sometimes the program would just crash to the desktop, and sometimes it would say the song made it onto the Zune, however when trying to find the music on my Zune it was nowhere to be found...

I have since sold my Zune and replaced with with a "less feature filled" Ipod 30gb Video...Quite frankly I am not happy that I had to "downgrade" back to an Ipod due to there are quite a few features of the zune I liked, however MS's software issues with the player are UNACCEPTABLE. These aren't even rare issues, these are happening to the majority of people who have bought the device which reeks of absolutely no widespread testing of their software.

If MS ever releases working software or if a 3rd party comes out with software I might sell my Ipod and go back to a Zune, but until then MS has failed to bring a usable product to the marketplace and I believe they should be re-imbursing all the Zune owners somehow for the headaches this device has caused.

Whats even more ridiculous is that the Zune is really nothing new, its software and hardware aren't anything new in the realm of MP3 players and many players using the WMC software are currently around and work just fine (even in windows vista)....yet MS can't get their own software (Zune's software) to work with thier own OS (WMC) .....sad is the only thing that can describe it

This is very much like my problem with creative micro zen and my dll dj boath run on similar firmware with the same ui... boath gave me a terrable experience when it came to getting songs on it... I ended up giving my zen touch to my dad and throwing the dell dj though the wall... im off the walmart to get an ipod and somthing to fix the wall..... :whistle:

I used the same 5.33MB setup, and it worked. I assumed it looked at the packages that were in the folder.

I had trouble installing Zune on my Computer aswell. Searching for solutions

i stumbled across this website that actually solved my problem.

In my case the problem was that i am running a non-us version of windows which

doesn't have the required Groups added. On that website you will find a script

that adds these Groups and adds your User account to those groups.

Even if you run a US Windows you might want to check if the groups "USERS" and "INTERACTIVE" exist

and that the user account you are currently using is added in these Groups. If not, the Batch file

provided on http://www.flx-tech.net/2006/12/fix_for_in...une_softwa.html will take care of it.

Hope this helps,

tge

Edit:

Just decided to put the script here in case the link goes down. Open up a text editor, paste in this code and save it as zunefix.bat and run it. (hopefully the author won't sue me for this):

Some things I would suggest that I did to get mine to work:

-Use a different USB port

-Download and use the installer from the Zune website, not from the CD

-If the device fails to install, disconnect the Zune and then go to Device Manager and uninstall it. Then run the installer from the website and once it asks, connect your Zune.

If you try to install firmware update 1.2 and it just sits there saying "installing" for 10 minutes, unplug your Zune and close the software. Then plug it in again. Your Zune should say the firmware update was complete.

As regards 'using a different USB port'-- some jaw-dropping percentage of front-side USB ports are underpowered and won't properly charge your Zune. So using a USB port on the backside of your computer will often get you better results. =\

Exactly what happened to me.

    • Glad these prices are starting to come down, but that is still crazy. I bought the 2TB 9100 Pro (slightly more expensive version with PCIe 5.0) last year for $240.
    • The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months by Sayan Sen Yesterday, we covered a really good deal wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for a low price of just $400 with a special discount coupon. That's just $100 per TB, making it a very good offer during these hard times. The deal is still live, so you can check it out in its dedicated article here if you do not want to miss out. Meanwhile, if you don't have that kind of budget but still wish to buy an SSD for a good price, the 2TB variant of the TeamGroup SSD at $280 its lowest price in over three months. Meanwhile, those seeking 2TB but faster performance can check out Samsung's 990 PRO, which has hit the lowest price also in the last quarter or so, as it's on sale for $370 (purchase links under the specs table down below). Thus, you want a faster drive, get the 990 Pro, or you want more capacity, grab the TeamGroup 4TB linked in the first para. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $500. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more. • If you can't spell a simple word that 2nd graders learn, your entire argument is suspect.
    • And here goes the "Won't someone think of the children" brigade. Get stuffed mate. This has NOTHING to do with making the internet safe. It's about tracking adults, spying on your online activity, and sending the boys around when they don't like something you post. Also, again, parliament have voted TWICE against this, and Starmer is going ahead anyway. THAT is anti-democratic bullsh**. They will use this law to track you, they will use this law to control you, and they will use this law to punish you if they don't like what you do, even if it's legal. And your data? Say bye bye to that. It'll be on the darkweb in weeks. I'm not some rando online. I've been an IT professional for 40 years, many of it in security. I know exactly what this means and what will happen to your data. I do not consent and I will not comply.
    • "...but it may not be Microsoft's fault" seems like a reasonable way to tease what is going on without leaving the user with a false impression that an update is the problem. A title isn't a summery, it is meant to entice the user to read the article. It should not contain a misleading premise; which this title does not. You could maybe complain that the first paragraph should have included that detail. The writing style popularized over 100 years ago in newspapers will cover the most important information as soon as possible with details and nuance added later; the idea being that with each new paragraph you have less of the reader's focus.
